HP iPAQ hw6900 (WM5 version of HP 6500) is being tested on Cingular. Hopefully this means a)the phone is real and b) it may be out soon.

sweet! cant wait for this toy...the reason I returned my K-Jam was because I need that keyboard on the the same plane as the screen...so...sweet

    Still 240x240?
HP has officially ruined it's own platform and kicked webOS loyalists and early TouchPad adopters to the curb. You think after you drop it like a hot potato and mention it made no money and is costing you money, anyone else wants it??? Way to go HP!!

And some people are fools to keep believing their hype. HP has shown they will throw webOS under the bus and people are still having faith in them??? News flash: if it's own company won't stand behind it, it's finished!

This is sure to be a nice device. FWIW, even the 6515 is quite a nice device. I,m currently testing one and I am VERY impressed. The build quality is second to none, the speakerphone works flawlessy, the keyboard is very responsive, the form factor is perfect for me (thin, wider than treo, no antenna, easy, tinted plastic cover keeps screen smudge-free). In short, I'm really enjoying it. It is very stable, and the fact that it has the keyboard visible, makes the one-handed improvements on WM 5 less of a factor. BTW, the screen looked much better than I had anticipated for 240x240.

Add to that the built in GPS and TWO memory slots, and I think this hw6515 is the most under-rated device on the market today.

Are you able to upgrade to WM5 on the 6515? Not worth it for me if it's not. I would rather wait for the 6900 line. But I still don't like 240x240. Full PPC should have minimum 320x240. Of course, this is just my opinion.

That being said, I'm a sucker for HP devices. Is the HP 240x240 better looking than the Treo 700w's?

I will second the opinion that the 6515 is a really under-appreciated device.

I've got mine overclocked to 520mhz using XPscalar, a 2000mha extended battery (good for a solid day and half of use with push email and only as "thick" as a Treo), a 2gb SD and 1gb mini-SD, two different GPS packages (TomTom and Mapopolis) and several little helper apps (Vitobutton, SPB Pocketplus, etc.) that make WM5 almost a moot point.

I also have an i-tech S35 bluetooth clip and since the HP supports A2DP I can stream my mp3 collection wirelessly. I also stream my home cable TV connection to the HP (using BeyondTV and an $80 TV tuner card). So I really have everything available on this one phone.

I have three devices, the 6515, a Treo650 and an Audiovox 5600 and swap the Cingular SIM card between them. The really cool thing is with Cingular's X-press mail available for all three platforms, whichever phone I feel like using has my up to date inbox and schedule after the first morning sync.

But the HP is far and away my favorite, so much so that I'm selling my Treo so if anybody's interested...$275 shipped and it's in "mint" (hardly used) condition.

I just saw a preliminary pic of the 6900. I still like WM5 over WM2003, sorry 6515 lovers.

Oh and I absolutely agree WM5 is worth the wait if waiting is worth it to you!

I bought my 6515 in November, and the 6900 may not be out until March/April from what i've been hearing. So I'll have the fun of my 6515 for 6-8 months and then slide into a 6900 unless some other new little "pretty" comes along.

So I guess my bigger point was that for the available life of the 6515 (not even sure how long it's been out but at least a few months back) it hasn't gotten an apporpriate amount of "good press" considering what it costs, what it has and what it can do - IMHO.

But as ususal these things are such a personal choice - and aren't we all lucky we have so many cool choices?

I was going to jump on the 6515 too, until they announced WM5 phones were coming soon. Since I hate looking back when it comes to technology, I changed my mind. I might have done it had they said it was upgradable. HP allowed some other devices to get upgrades.

They are on sale for $199 (refurbed) at the Cingular online store right now. That is a massive steal. (I picked up another and convinced CS to give me an additional $50 credit to my account for being such a good customer. )

I will probably also get the 6900 series once it is released but I don't think it'll be soon enough for my needs (wants?) .

BTW, I haven't seen the screen on a 700w to compare with so I'm not sure if it's better, the same, or worse. The screen is definitely larger than I had expected. It's almost the same size as my Qtek 9100's.

HP makes good screens from what I've seen. Now how about getting them to update to WM5? Then you won't have to give up built-in GPS. I believe I read the 6900 may not include it because they traded it in for wi-fi. Thanks HP, you give and take away at the same time! But even so, they're doing better than Palm with the devices! Both of the 6515 and the 6900 kick the 700w to the curb IMO!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't HTC also make the HP line?

I'm not sure about iPAQs. But I heard that HP is branding an Atom for itself. And I bet you HTC makes the Atom.

Quanta (very big laptop OEM) makes the Atom. However HTC probably made the other HP PDA's.

Well I lost the bet then!
But I'd like to see more from Quanta. So they make cool laptops too?

I just found a link that says they make Dell Latitudes and Sony Vaios.

According to specs, it does have GPS along with wi-fi! Cool!! WHY can't Palm do the same thing?
