Android on Pre

Any progress to this port?, WebOS is a great SO, but it lacks of good applications and Android is still growing and is Open Source!, thanks for the effort ! I'm dying for Android on my Pre!

disney.jessica: android guy help widget is automatically, and also you can add or remove other default widgets. Yes, Homescreens is five.

There are only 3 people in this project in China...
If someone in precentral wants to help, we will very appreciate it.

And i add, that i work on it too not kernel developing, but enhance Bootr and create install script for installing direct on Pre, then not need prepare on PC with GNU/Linux. Also i have solved Reboot in PowerMenu.
Keyboard q,w,e is now used back for typing and for Menu is set Center button. All is in finishing... stay tuned

Anyway with driver is not i think progress, but some issues is on userspace side, on kernelside is working brightness for lcd, keyboard (and left/right/center led) via sysfs, maybe only need change path to Pre HW sysfs or permisions... i try play more with this latter.

I have a strong interest in this project. I like web os alot, but it just doesn't have the raw amount of apps that android has. I would love to see dual booting in the future but making sure the USB boot is stable first is obviously a priority.

I think it would be possible but difficult. As far as I know the gesture area is just handled as normal touchscreen input hardware-side, and it is the OS's task to interpret if there was made any "gesture".

there should be some use made out of that regardless, since it would be a waste otherwise.

Any updates on this? Seems like not much has been going on on the wiki... it would be interesting to see in which direction this is going.

agreed - I will wait for the moment it is possible to easily install and dual boot this. Is there any estimated timeframe for this?

Too bad, I thought it worked on the Pre 2, but it seems not. I hope they'll work on it after it becomes stable

i have prepared enhanced Bootr and auto script for download/prepare/install on Pre. For now i hope both with fixes latest main problem based on tests. Anyway is used currect kernel and rootfs from google code, still not any new.
and then is very experimental...

yesterday i upload remixfiles.tar.gz to google code, with Reboot in PowerMenu and Center button as MENU(Q,W,E for typing)
is possible unpack this archive to already present NFS installation on PC, or wait for Bootr and install script for dual-boot if you not friend with GNU/Linux, NFS... but you friend with webOS doctor if any problem ocured

i now only wait for respons from original Bootr author and from Android-on-Pre maintainer..

i don't have Pre Plus, but i think if webOS kernel is same for Pre and Pre Plus, then Android Pre kernel 'must' too work on Plus....

Why would anyone want to disrespect their pre by loading something as crappy as android on it? And I use an evo as my main everyday cell phone. I'm sorry android just sucks. If you could dual boot maybe and I am a tech shlue so I can understand the hey I can do it so I will in the name of im just a dork factor. Anyway I'm just saying webos is far superior to android in my book. It is interesting and good work on even trying to get it done.

On webOS 1.4.5 is need manualy install package "GNU Patch" using Preware or WOSQI

1. Create "android" directory on USB and copy to this dir AoP.sh.txt
If you put also this files:Bootr , mix.tar.00 , mix.tar.01 , uImage.usbnet , remixfiles.tar.gz then downloading on Pre will be skiped.

2. Run novaterm on PC(or SDLTerminal on Pre) and paste next 3 lines to it:

cd /media/internal/android
mv AoP.sh.txt AoP.sh
sh AoP.sh all

3. If all be done, after you Restart Phone is show Bootr screen with webOS.
Using VolUp/Down(or Center) change to Android, press PowerButton(or MuteSwitch to ON) and wait less that 1 minute to boot.

Notes:
- resume from sleep not work, change timeout to 10 minutes in Settings/Display/ScreenTimeout
- for restart hold PowerButton and select "Reset" from menu.
- for Android HOME button use Pre Center button (Q,W,E used for typing)

WiFi:
Not work out-of-box, is need enable it in Settings, and also over telnet from PC.

Android boot hung at logo (Palm, HP, webos-internal)
You probably try on unsupported PalmPrePlus and your Pre will be unbootable...
