• The Epic has nothing like the Palm Touchstone

Basic Android features
• Many webOS patches are already built into Android or are apps.
• Speech to Text - say a message or email instead of typing it.
• Widgets let you customize your home screen
• Voice Search is much like like universal search but by voice

Android's open API's allows for apps not in webOS
• A variety of Android music players instead of one in webOS
• Android mic access allows speech and sound recognition in apps like:
- - Shazam can use an Android mic to listen to a song & tell you what it is
- - Voice Actions can do things like "send text to Jeff Miller See you at 10"
- - Talk to Me hears your spoken words and says it in other languages.
- - gStrings can tune your guitar, base, violin, etc.
• Android developers can access the camera for apps like:
- - Layar can use the an Android camera to look beyond walls
- - Barcode Scanner can use the camera to read barcodes
• Other apps available now in Android
- - Swype - type by sliding a finger around. Sets Guinness Record - More.
- - Amazon Nook & Barnes and Noble Kindle eReaders (900,000 free books)
- - Flash Beta 3 - Yes, it is real.
• There are 100,000 Android apps...

If you wanted the EVO but were holding out for a keyboard, that would be Epic. (or Droid 2)

Palm Pre/Pre 2 Comparisons:
- 4.3" HTC EVO - 4.3" Droid X - 4" Captivate - iPhone 4
- w/Keyboards: 4" Samsung Epic - 3.7" Droid 2 Global

Default Samsung Epic

Oh man....Sprint is just getting all the big name devices now eh?

Samsung's Epic 4G for Sprint seems to live up to its name -- Engadget

Quote:

That rumored Galaxy S Pro is very real and very official for Sprint this evening, 'cept it's not actually called the Galaxy S Pro -- instead, it'll be known as the Epic 4G when it comes to market "in the coming months." Like the EVO 4G before it, the Epic 4G sort of blows everything out of the water on paper: 4-inch Super AMOLED display, 5 megapixel primary camera with LED flash and 720p video recording paired with a VGA front-facing cam for video calls, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, six-axis accelerometer, and a 1GHz Hummingbird core. Oh, and of course let's not forget those EV-DO Rev. A and WiMAX radios, the latter of which will earn you theoretical downlink speeds in excess of 10Mbps -- speeds that will work nicely with the phone's five-device mobile hotspot support (three devices fewer than the EVO 4G, interestingly).

As software goes, the Epic 4G will be running Samsung's reworked version of Android 2.1 offering features like DLNA support and Social Hub. In other words, this is the closest you're going to get to an EVO 4G with a landscape QWERTY slide -- and at 14.2mm thick, you're only about a millimeter and a half thicker than HTC's entry. Like AT&T's Captivate, the Epic 4G is being described as "a Galaxy S smartphone," so it's pretty clear that Samsung's looking to group all of these things under a global brand with big-time name recognition. Neither pricing nor a launch date have been announced -- but hey, the EVO deserves a few more days in the spotlight, wouldn't you say? Follow the break for Sprint's press release.
I'm not a fan of Samsung's UI over the phone and also the styling of the phone, but at 4" that will knock back the people saying the Evo is too large of a screen...plus its hummingbird 1ghz chip is more than capable for 3D games plus the super AMOLED screen takes care of the other Evo complaint.

So now bears the question Evo vs. Epic?

I'm still leaning Evo personally.

The EVO is certainly the nicer looking phone but if you only compare the processors the Epic wins but the processor isn't everything

So what the hell is a six-axis accelerometer? Is that like a less advanced version of the gyroscope in the iphone?

I'm so going to try to get this one as soon as it comes out!! I tried the Evo when it came out but it didn't work out. Maybe this one will be awesome. I just want to know if it's bigger than the Evo as in phone size & screen size. I kinda wanna get an idea.

Well it proves viability for a Pre landscape slider.

samsung hasn't made to many good smart phones imo. I think the only thing saving this device is the processor and android

Their WM phones were pretty decent IMO. I never had an issue with my Blackjack nor the Epic. Except for one button shortcut on the Epic, but that didn't affect the entire phone.

They didn't really do well by Android though, until now, I hope. The Moment was just OK and the Behold II seems to have gotten shafted of an update. But the Galaxy seems to be much better.

And some people are fools to keep believing their hype. HP has shown they will throw webOS under the bus and people are still having faith in them??? News flash: if it's own company won't stand behind it, it's finished!
