Seeing how all 3 major OSes have competent voice assistants, would it be possible to add one to Open webOS? You, know after they finish patching all the little bugs still in the code? Mayhaps it could be bean bird!
Here is a really quick mockup that I did:

I'll do a better one tomorrow. I only had like 5 secs to draw it.

I feel that could mesh well with the notification system webOS uses.

Creating one from scratch would be a tall order, maybe there is something one can piggyback on?

Perhaps a version of Google Now? Maybe Cortana?

Here is a much better drawing. Those circle things are leaves that blow in the wind. Maybe it could be weather based?

    Hi
I like the ideas behind this new design of WebOS: MOCHI, it very nice looking and modern....yet while I'm not a big fan of the whole flat design including dark grey coloring of the icons, it included some nice features that WebOS it was lacking "next generation multitasking" and of course "badges" every major OS had them just not WebOS. One sad news about all of this 'future thinking'

    Use Vaani from FireFoxOS.

    It'll be open source, HTML5.

    Skin it and boom, done.

That it's HTML5 doesn't mean it will work on webOS. FirefoxOS uses Gecko as rendering engine, we use WebKit based one. There are some slight differences, so it might not work without some modifications.

Looks like it's Python and should be portable. For a LuneOS RPi port, it might be usable out of the box.

All the FireFoxOS APIs are drafted and submitted to the WC3 for approval, they're not ment to be Gecko specific. As a matter of fact, that is kind of the exact opposite of what FireFoxOS is aiming to accomplish. Every FireFoxOS app I've tested on Chrome (latest) works perfectly fine, so that should be a pretty good indication of compatibility at this juncture.

It will likely work without much issue, but don't quote me on that. Even if there are some small snags, it'll likely still be a hell of a lot better than trying to roll your own from scratch.

Why duplicate work when the team already has so much on their plate?

We're all in favor of re-using others work where possible, we do it quite often when we borrow bits from Ubuntu, Firefox, Jolla/Mer/Sailfish OS ;-)

    Nothing wrong with that!

LuneOS has been speeding along quite nicely, so your strategies are clearly working well.

Wait what? Is this really happening? Should I draw up more concepts?

Perhaps. As soon as I get my hands on a build of FireFoxOS with Vaani, I'll see if it is possible to extract it to test it under webkit/Blink/Chrome to check for feasibility.

It may be so tightly implemented into FireFoxOS that I can't easily pull out the bits you guys need.

But regardless, your mock-up is likely not a bad idea anyway.
