Have you considered doing a full review? Maybe when the Alpha 3 is released.

I know certain online magazine that's always after articles...

Well...cannot boot up the 04 NOV image.
D/L'd the image, pushed it to the GNEX, when booting with zImage, does not fully boot, goes into loop then back to cyanogenmod.

Tried 3 times already (with a fresh download and ADB push each time). Does not boot up.
Will try on the next image.

I am sure that LG will show a TV with Webos and see a device with open webos running at CES 2014.

There is much activity in https://github.com/openwebos/meta-webos/commits. In my opinion would be meaningless if all this work is not portable to a smart phone or tablet.

It makes sense that Phone + Tablet + TV with cloud access framework.

Hope to have a new device with open webos soon.

I wonder how long changes to open webOS take to work their way into webOS ports work. These are interesting:

"Release Notes:
Provide new API to check whether this is an official build
or a developer image to allow other logging components to
select the correct servers to use.

etailed Notes:
- This is to collect crash and analytic report from various
development devices." - hmm, what kind of devices

":Release Notes:
Create the directory for the pre-installed catalog apps (PICA-s) IPKs:
${webos_picapkgdir}." - seems to hint at app catalog

"...since we always want Enyo 1 to be a part of Open webOS
even if no component if Open webOS requires it." - looks like a bit for backward compatibility of legacy Enyo apps.

"Tested that both mojoservice and webos-service based services still
launch properly." - mojo services eh? More legacy support? Edit: clarification added per Garfonso's note below - this has nothing to do with Mojo apps (the UI framework in webOS legacy).

It appears that new instructions for installing openwebOS (ports) on GNex:
Install WOP for Maguro - WebOS-Ports

And the links appear to d/l the image as a zip and the usual fastboot kernel.

Definitely gonna try this CWM install version.

This was long overdue. Has been on my list for ages to create :-) I created a number of templates in the last week, preparing for the future :-) Build, install and testing are now template based so it's very easy to add additional devices going forward :-) You'll see more changes to the wiki shortly :-)

As an FYI
The link in the disclaimer is for the N7 not the GNex.

This is quite OT here, but I don't want people to get wrong hopes...

mojoservice and Mojo UI framework are actually two completely different things. The only thing in common is the name. Mojoservice is the framework that handles launch and termination of node.js services. It has nothing to do with UI. And it was in the open webOS repository all the time.

But it's nice to know that they still test that. I love node.js services.

Thanks. You're right, and I am aware of the difference - I just didn't realize any of that was still in open webOS. I probably should have been more specific in my comment to make sure I didn't confuse people. I added a clarification to my comment above. I apologize to anyone I might have confused. :-)

Well I'm hoping that this thread isn't TO dead!? I just finished booting it on my Gnex, and I must say that it is working much more fluidly than I had thought it would. The feel of it is great for an alpha build.

Bringing up the app drawer is much faster than I would've though, although certain apps still don't come up at all.

Still an issue with the keyboard, but for the time I'm not to worried.

Very hopeful that the fine people at the webos-ports team will keep this dream of ours going!!

The last build I tried was Oct 12, 2013. It booted once, but on reboot sent me into a bootloop...

What build did you use???

I have yet to boot into the Nov 4 build or use new instructions yet. Hope to find some time soon.

Edit:
I see that the latest image is 11 Dec.. Cool.

I'm not exactly sure. I used the latest stable build according the the install instructions. I haven't since tried a different build, but if I can get the hang of it I'll be trying it again tonight.

Development is advancing quite fast.... often when I report an issue in the IRC, morphis tells me that it's already fixed and I should check on the newest image.

Okay. So I installed the latest WIP version from the staging feeds.

MAKE NANDROID BACKUP FIRST! See below events

Of important note to those attempting the new method at Install WOP for Maguro - WebOS-Ports
- Step 9 under Installing WOP from Recovery is slightly incorrect:
- Just reboot to bootloader (even though the step's actual instructions lead to booting into recovery).

Not really knowing what is intended to be 'working':
- My set up says WiFi is disabled even when turned on
- Telephony has a data switch, when turned on, no data (to be expected honestly)
- As such, I cannot use browser nor see if Preware2 will look for feeds.
- Did not bother establishing the email account as WiFi would not work.
- Gesture area works; can minimize to card view (yes!) then swipe up and away.
- Can also bring up launcher with swipe.

Next version I hope has wifi enabled so I can see what Preware2 does.

EDIT: Hmmmm.....Cannot power off in openwebOS(ports), and adb reboot rebooted me back into openwebOS (ports); so its persistent now. Luckily I had made a backup of my CM install and re-installing in recovery now.

EDIT 2: Booting into CM 10.1.2; but my backup is a few days old....<sigh>....lesson enforced once again....

Further clarification:

It appears that in the instructions I linked to in my previous post; the link to grab the latest image does not grab the "webos-ports-dev-package-maguro" zip but "webos-ports-package-maguro" zip.

Prior reading of the wiki noted that only "dev" packages are supported for bug reporting etc.
So its likely the package I d/l'd did not have the fixes etc. that I expected to see from reading changelogs etc.

Make sure you have d/l'd the dev version
I will try this weekend and get the latest "dev" zip file on the device. Hope wi-fi works on that.

Per the build directory, the latest "dev" build is 17 DEC 2013.

I'm glad you made that clarification. I've been downloading the package zip as opposed to the dev zip.

Booted the new release just not and I've noticed that it's running very quickly in booting all the apps I've launched so far. Although, in every build I've run, the volume buttons haven't worked. And still no power options. The only thing I've noticed that is new is that the battery icon shows a question mark as opposed to the battery level, which I'm used to seeing.

On a brighter note, I tried using the search bar in Preware2 (only because Just Type is still not functional) and got a red bar along the bottom of the screen. It feels like progress to me!! Really loving what I'm seeing!

P.S. As a side note, the calculator is definitely not scaled properly.
