I would bet $$$ that any phone they come out with will be Win8. That's just how sucky that company is.

"I n the coming months" was not quoted. That means it's not our beloved webOS

My bet is on windows phone

She actually gave a much more vague timeline than that. WebOS has a chance! lol

after watching the video I think you guys may be right about this windows 8 stuff. What I heard her say is they tried to go into smartphones with a dog of an operating system and it was a mistake. So they gave that OS away to some guys to play with and now they are going to build a real smartphone with a real os.

Probly the best we can hope for is that they build a phone that webos can run on. Not likely tho

    Dear hp,

I have no interest in a smart phone made by your company that will be running an OS that is not webOS.

    Thanks,

    Erm ... I quote
"We have to ultimately offer a smartphone because in many countries of the world that would be your first computing device...we are a computing company."
Will nice to see, that common knowledge takes only a few years to sink into HPs managers head.
The community will now question itself if there will be any chance for WebOS to be on the devices.

    I estimate following possible variants:
    1) WP8 or Android on the phone. Hardware not WebOS compliant.
    2) WP8 or Android in the phone. Hardware is indeed WebOS compliant, but it's left to the community to put it on the device themselves
    3) WP8 or Android on the devices, but there is a small line of devices that are sold with WebOS on them.
    4) WP8 or Android on the devices with WebOS as dual-boot OS on every device.
    5) WebOS only

My list is declining in praobability, with 1) and 2) being the most probable and the rest of the list heading towards wishful thinking the further down you come ...

I hold my thumbs for something like 4) but imagine it will be 1) or maybe 2) at best.

And here's what she actually said.

Liz Claman (Fox Business): "I want to get to smart phones. Where is the HP smartphone? You guys bought, this is before you were CEO, Palm, which has been just a, not a supportive company when it comes to er, smartphones, but have you guys had something up your sleeve? Are we going to see an HP smartphone that'll grab the attention here?"

Meg Whitman: "So we are working on this - in the end I would love to be able to provide all the way from the most fabulous work stations, by the way we just took over the number one position in workstations from Apple, to desktops, to laptops, to our tablets and convertables all the way to smartphone. But we did take a detour into smartphone and we've got to get it right this time and so my, um, mantra to the team is 'better right, than the faster we should be there'. So we're working to make sure when we do this, it will be the right thing for Hewlett-Packard and we will be successful"

Liz Claman (Fox Business): "So a smartphone is not if but when for Hewlett Packard?"

Meg Whitman: "My view is that we have to ultimately offer a smartphone, because in many countries of the world, that is your first computing device! You know, there will be countries round the world where people may never own a tablet or a PC or a desktop, they will do everything on a smartphone - we're a computing company, we have to take advantage of that, er, form factor"

"We've got to do it right this time" - that could be taken different ways, but I don't like the way it sounded.
