So HP is going to Open Source webOS. This could be a huge win in the long term, but what about the short term? First we know they have been working on a 3.0.5 release with some bug fixes in it, but are they going to finalize and release it now? What about other bugs such as touch sensors that randomly stop working, accelerameter, sound bugs, etc.? Is HP still going to work on fixing these or are we now waiting for it to become OS and the OS Community to fix these bugs?

Did HP say they werent going to continue support for webOS? I just thought they werent going to make devices anymore.

They said they would support the OS community. Not that they would continue development themselves with regular releases. They also said that in order to open source it, they would need to replace several licensed components. So are they going to be focused on bug fixes or replacing the parts that they need to OS it?

I don't even think the most hardened WebOS basher feels 3.05 isn't coming. No worries. Its on its way.

Yeah, I dont think HP is just open sourcing webOS and calling it quits.

I am just worried that my Touch sensor problem won't get fixed in a timely manner. I have mentioned before that periodically several keys on my virtual kb stop responding (B, Y, Backspace, and Space), the 8 key on the Pin Pad, and the 0 on the built in calculator. I can wait for a fix as long as I know one is coming. Although I am not sure it is part of 3.0.5 for sure, I don't want to wait a year or more with this major issue.

If I had to wager on this, I would think completing the current version (3.0.5, or whatever) would be a mandatory milestone before the open source release, anyway.

I do hope HP does continue their development after they release the source code.
