The people who will actually be working with open source WebOS will make a strategy when they need one.

Yeah.. agreed! Scrolling through some long doco and suddenly it shrinks from view and bins itself off the top of the screen!

    Dead smart!

We need active scroll bars so badly!!

Step II: Have no plan in place for whenever it eventually IS (open sourced)?

    Too slow.

It would be VERY expensive. I did research for a hardware project a few years ago, and the quote for prototyping what was just essentially a digital audio recording device was about $20K, so I'm sure a capacitive touchscreen smartphone would be many times more than that.

if you really believe that webos-internals has no plan in place, then you really haven't been paying attention to the work they've been doing.

Just to name a couple.. Oh maybe you don't remember Preware, patch distribution, overclocking, theme manager.. Just to a name a few more ;-)

I just suggested to webOS Nation that they should organize another fundraiser to get some funds ready for when webOS goes fully open source. That way webOS Internals and other developers will have a pot of funds to use for hardware purchases and incentives to work on getting webOS on new devices and continuing work on current devices.
