Harriet Miers withdrew her nomination to be a Supreme Court justice this morning.

Although I was for Roberts, I was not happy with Miers.

Bush really needs to appoint someone like Roberts. Miers really didn't cut the mustard

Looks like Dubya took Krauthammer's advice and used the Senate's request for documents as the way out.

She was conspicuously unqualified for the job. Now Bush has a real dilemma: nominate someone with true conservative credentials and face a hellstorm in the senate or go milquetoast and have his desire to overturn Roe v Wade unsatisfied.

I guess spelling isn't a requirement in Yale's MBA program.

If the implication here is that spelling is related to intelligence... well browse these here message boards for a bit (including your own posts) before casting that particular stone.

But buying and education pre-dates Kennedy's.

Well, just like his second pick for the Department of Homland Security, I bet Bush selects a no brainer candidate again. He needs something positive to happen sometime soon.

Regardless of what Ivy League school he attended, he was there because of Legacy and nothing more. Remember the 'C' student comment? His record is unimpressive both as a student and politician.

What is impressive is a student who works his way through law school by working as a janitor and became a United States District Attorney. That's impressive.

But if W went to Harvard and HW went to Yale how did he get legacy treatment???

I seem to recall stories about how he actually got better grades than his presidential adversaries. As is typical for lefties, you make claims based on your feelings and not based in reality.

    Without a doubt.

This whole subtopic began with the assertion that GWB couldn't spell "nominate". Whether he got special consideration in being accepted to Harvard or not is petty and irrelevant.

He received legacy consideration because of his grandfather. Regardless of the grades of other presidents or presidential adversaries, being a 'C' student is unimpressive for him and the others to whom you are referring. In fact, by definition, C=satisfactory so my statement stands. Satisfactory is not impressive. The statement is quite relevant considering we're joking about a man's supposed inability to spell (he was a C student, right?). And, wasn't it Bush, himself who made that known to the country when he himself joked about it?

Also, I'm not a lefty, I'm a righty!!! In all seriousness, simply because I don't like GWB, doesn't mean I'm a Democrat or that Clinton is my hero. This couldn't be further from the truth. I vote for the person who I feel is the best for the job based on their education and experience. Once again, based on those terms I am unimpressed with Bush's record.

    Relax!

This whole canard about Bush's supposed lack of intelligence gets under my skin. Sorry if I was a bit harsh. Some statements like those made in this thread are typically used as a proxy attack on his policies by people who'd rather engage in attacks on Bush personally than engage on ideas. If this doesn't include you, I apologize.

Again, sorry for the slander of calling you a leftie.

Ok, here's an interesting point I never considered before. Miers was Bush's White House Counsel. So what would happen when something Bush signed into law came before the Supreme Court if she were a Justice?

...yet another reason she was an astonishingly stupid pick.
