The World Wide Web was invented by Tim Berners Lee, a Brit working in the European Organization for Nuclear Research based in Geneva, Switzerland.

That all the root servers are under control of the US Department for Trade and Industry is just bad luck from the early days and it is going to change. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that it is not wise to have them all in one country, and specially under the control of one government.

Find yourself your own planet if you don't like it here.

Tim currently works at MIT by the way, heading the WWW consortium. Obviously he found that more interesting in the end than his nuclear research!

Right. It makes MUCH more sense to place the technology that levels the field under the direct control of a demonstratably corrupt international body.

The internet, like success, apparently has many fathers...

Oh well, at least the television was invented by a guy from Utah. Just think where the world would be without Desparate Houswives!

Yes, the World Wide Web is a subset of the Internet, which was invented by the US Department of Defense's Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) in the 1960's. There would be no WWW, or at least, not this advanced right now, without ARPANET.

It's like computing itself, no one country can claim to have developed every aspect, but many can be proud of at least part of it. It's not something you can stake a flag in.
