3 Wives Greet British Man After Surgery

    http://apnews.myway.com//article/200...D8BTLGE80.html

LONDON (AP) - Some people bring flowers, others bring balloons. When Melvyn Reed's three wives showed up to visit him at the hospital, they brought an unexpected curtain call to his years as a double bigamist.

British police confirmed that after Melvyn Reed woke from his triple bypass heart operation earlier this year, his complicated marital affairs took a turn for a worse. All three of his spouses had turned up at the same time, despite his efforts to stagger their visits.

Media reports say that, upon realizing that something was amiss, the wives held a meeting in the parking lot, and learned that they were all married to the same man..............

3 wives - triple bypass. Poetic justice or perfect sense?

Potty-mouthed? New English words are just lush

    Aug 10, 11:21 AM (ET)

LONDON (Reuters) - Do chuggers bother you when you want to rock up to a restaurant with your cockapoo to hoover a supersized ruby murray?

Confused? Then you need to refer to the new Oxford Dictionary of English to understand a host of new words that appear for the first time in its latest edition.

Among the new entries are "potty-mouthed" (meaning using or characterized by bad language), "lush" (very good) and "scopophilia" (sexual pleasure derived chiefly from watching others when they are naked or engaged in sexual activity).

Some words, such as "demographic" (a particular sector of a population) have become commonplace but only now make it into the dictionary.

They are joined by those emerging from new technology like "phishing" (fraudulently sending emails purporting to be from reputable firms to get individuals to reveal personal details).

Harry Potter bewitches Guantanamo Bay prisonersAug 10, 11:16 AM (ET)

    By Caroline Drees, Security Correspondent

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Harry Potter has bewitched detainees at the U.S. prison at Guantanamo Bay, where tales of the young wizard and mysteries by Agatha Christie top the list of most popular books, a prison librarian said on Tuesday.

"Harry Potter is a popular title among some of the detainee population," said the librarian, a civilian contractor identified only as "Lorie" who works at the prison camp for foreign terrorism suspects at the U.S. naval base in Cuba.

Lorie said the popularity of the best-selling Harry Potter books, which recount the adventures of a boy wizard as he triumphs over the powers of evil, was matched only by the prisoners' passion for Agatha Christie, some of whose murder mysteries are set in the Middle East.

Nev. Man Admits Lying About 'Wonka' Role

    Aug 10, 6:44 PM (ET)

RENO, Nev. (AP) - A Reno man who long claimed to have played one of Willy Wonka's Ooompa Loompas in the original 1971 motion picture now admits he was lying.

Ezzy Dame, a high-fashion hairdresser and art enthusiast, confessed the fib Tuesday in an interview with the Reno Gazette-Journal. He said the false claim seemed harmless at the time but grew into a beast of a deception.

"It was not for fame or glory," said Dame, 57. "I never made a profit or earned a financial gain from this."

"There is something so special when a child looks at a little person and they're not scared or feel that they're looking at a freak. When you say you played that part, they look at you and smile. They see you as a human being," he told the newspaper.

Man Thought Lost in Utah Found in Australia

    Aug 9, 10:13 PM (ET)

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A man thought to have disappeared while hiking in southwestern Utah has been traced to Australia, Washington County sheriff's officers said Tuesday.

Bryan Butas, 35, of St. George, Utah, reportedly planned to go hiking alone July 30 in an area near Leeds. His car was found the next day near the Oak Grove campground in Dixie National Forest.

Sheriff Kirk Smith said investigators found that Butas had purchased a plane ticket on July 20 and flew from Los Angeles to New Zealand and then to Sydney on Aug. 2. He was then traced to Cairns, Queensland.

Smith said the information all came together on Monday, the day the search was canceled.

He said Butas was not under arrest because no crime had been committed, but a civil action could be filed to get Butas to pay the costs of the search and investigation, which a preliminary estimate put at about $20,000.

Butas' wife and three children recently moved to Ohio and Butas had been said to be planning to join them in December.

Something just like this happened in my Army unit in Colorado once.

If you had to line up the 120 guys in an Infantry company from least likely to go AWOL to most likely, you'd have the CO, the First Sergeant, etc. at the top. In that top ten of least likely to go AWOL, we'd have had our company's armorer. He was a VERY responsible young man who had full access to all of our weapons and ammo.

One morning, we had a huge snowstorm and guys were having trouble making it into work. We had our 6:30 formation and Jones wasn't there. Then again, four other guys missed it as well. The 9:00 formation came around and Jones still wasn't around. We called his wife who replied that he left at 5:30 for the first formation as usual. We called the local MPs to have them look around the post. By 11:00, we called the state troopers to look on the highways as there were several reports of accidents.

At 1:00, we got a call from his wife. She said that she found a letter. Turns out that this guy just had enough of the bills, the Army, his wife, and the rest of his life. By 4:00, we got a call from the state troopers that they found his car in the Denver airport parking lot (Hour and a half away). They confirmed that he boarded a plane for Amsterdam and was gone.

And that was that... The only time I've heard of someone just quitting EVERYTHING.
    Recognizing that I volunteered...
