I never have , but I'm just a newbie. I noticed some change frequently, and I'm wondering, is it like underwear i.e. is there a baseline frequency or is it just preference?

    I never change mine. :-)

Once. And considering I do not wear underwear, that would be one more time I have changed my avatar than I have underwear.

Thank you for noticing, but your interest has me worried...

I have, over the years become an efficient being. Since no one actually would see my underwear (as I am not some 16 year old dressed with me britches down to me knees,) I don't feel the need to wear them. Nor do I need to worry about putting them on or taking them off. Time saver. As well as money saver, having no need to purchase said garments. Nor do i have to worry about the car accident scenario, in which an EMT or E-Room Doc would need to rip of my trousers, only to find skid marked undies.

    Chicks dig it too.

With Earth Day just past and in keeping with dutch's "asked and answered" I would think that this is a perfect segue to some water conserving environmentally sound and wise advice:

    front to back,
    back to front,
    inside-out, front to back,
    inside-out, back to front.

I haven't changed mine since I joined. Thought about it, but it's only a picture.

(Now, if you look like Chick, Tanster, Tiffany or any of the other TC lovelies, we GREATLY APPRECIATE your changes of avatars.)

Did you notice, though, when you do it changes for every post you ever made, at least that's how it looks. Makes some of those what does your avatar mean/who's that in your avatar posts seem kind of weird.

I haven't changed mine since I joined, either but I haven't been around so long.

Took me a while, but I finally decided I needed some kind of pic.

I'll probably change it in a year or two.
Less than 400 posts to get my own little treo icon!

I can't change mine any more! I think there's a problem with the system that restricts avatars of mods to -1 by -1 pixels. Needless to say that drastically limits my creativity.

When you have 5,000+ posts, you don't need an avatar!

At 5000 posts, you are crowned an avatar

I changed once here and at my alternative home pdaphonehome

I decided the first one looked silly, unlike the non-silly idea of spending an hour a day on a discussion board about a pda phone.
