...why does it take so long? A year after the Madrid bombings, they announced a 'fatwa'. Glad they had time to get around to doing this. Since they move like mollasses, how bout a marketing firm helping the public image of the muslim religion. When a coward blows up a car and kills scores of children, women, men they should immediately be talking with the media talking about how these murderers don't represent the religion. Their stock has gone down in my book. I respect individual muslims, but their religion appears to either condone murders or too scared to act.

The devil is a sufficient adversary on his own. No advocacy is needed

as for what christians have done, crusades spring to mind, the Pope did a Mea Culpa for that, but that was hundreds of years later..
and even in recent times, many innocent civilians have been killed by US troops. (for simplicity sake I labeled them as christians, though of course many are not, but their leader is.. anyway you get the point)

    All of those apply..

Sadly things like this happen in any culture/religion... Budism seems to be a bit of an exeption, but I'm sure there are simular cases involving budists too..

Well, I've never heard of a radical Buddhist either, come to think of it. Although I believe a Sri Lankan civil war was fought between Buddhists and Hindus, so I'm sure some innocents died at Buddhist hands. But all religions have their out of control lunatics...

Toolkit, we're at war. Innocent people will die. Many more will die b/c of terrorists. As insertion recently said in another thread, soldiers try to avoid civilians. He also said all of this would be over fast if they weren't so careful. Well I hope this thread won't go off course. I agree with you, better late than never.

It is sad but the true fact ...
shortly after the death of the Prophet these power-hungary Pan-Arabist esteblishment took over which was always againt the Prophet and his teachings.
But they had become a nation (thanks to the Prophet)instead of little desert-deweling clans always in war with each other.
Now they dismissed All of the Prophet's true wishes and did a 180 and went as far as killing his only beloved daughter while she was 6 or 7 months pregnant and said .."that Nothing will stop the establishment! not even the Prophet's close family"!
Then there were hand full of true Moslem (believers) left but they (estabishment) started to kill them off until the Prophet's grand son and 71 of his followers Stood up to those animals and their (establishment's) army of 10,000 and so he and his 71 friends and family all got killed that day(aashoora) in Karbal (Iraq) and the rest is history.

So my friends, 99% of the ppl who call themselves as "Moslems" are nothing but Inheritors of an uncivilized barbaric and pan arabic establishment (much like Saddumb) who lusted after money and power (just like the church did) and nothing stopped them and so the true Eslaam went into hiding and still is...

It is funny that Shie'h Eslaam is the true form of Islam (becase they are the minority who accepted and followed the Prophet's orders/wishes but were always hunted by the Caliph (the arab emperor) until a few hundred years ago , but then slowly the British got into that part of the world divided them and conqured them and corrupted the hell out of those damn clergymen who finally came to power in 1979 by the british plot (jimmy farmer is a damn freemasonist and worships the ***** of england, so is colin powell thats why he quit bush) so he (jimmy) was just a puppet as most of the US Prez are...

It is all about oil/money and power and Nothing to do with God ,goodness and spirituality!

Sorry for the long post but I had to tell it like it is!
(well in a nutshell , really)....

I think the key question is whether the elimination of non-believers is a component of core beliefs. Christians do want to eridicate unbelievers, but only in the sense of wanting everyone to be "converted." There is, however, no sense of "convert or die." And, while some christians' evangelical tactics may appear otherwise, I'm not aware of any Christians who advocate extermination of unbelievers as a tenet of the faith.

If media reports are to be accepted, there are people who pracitce Islam that espouse extermination of "infidels" as a tenet of the faith. I have not studied the religion. I do not know. I do not assume that postion is so based on media reports. I merely offer the distinction in as much as a comparison was made to Christianity.

You just summed up my main problem with (organised) religion...

Luckily christians don't do it anymore (openly anyway) but looking back in the past you'll see they did.

So for now I'm happy with any religious leader that denounces violence..

What is your main problem with organised religion? (I have a few of my own, but right now I am interested in yours) Are you referring to the desire to see others "converted"?
