Agreed - the No. 1 rhetoric comes of course from national pride, which you should find in most nations of the world, some of us Americans seem to wear it on our sleeve a bit more than most.

I would say the same thing to you - if you're going to post something as divisive, in the manner you do, you must expect others to disagree as adamantly? Delivery is everything and your usual manner is the same as the national liberal manner - get in peoples face, scream "you're an *****" and then expect to be able to walk away without getting a response - it doesn't work that way as others are as entitled to their opinion as you are.

If you are so strongly in favor of "if you don't want to read something that is disagreeable to you, then you should be the one to move to a country that doesn't allow dissent and criticism... or push to make it illegal here, which is obviously what you want" why are you surprised when others post their opinion that is 180 degrees from yours? I imagine just as I expect - you just can't believe others don't think the same way you do, it drives you crazy!

I guess the problem is nudist quoted facts, not opinion. There's not much one can say against facts, so you have to attack the messenger. It doesn't really change anything about reality, but at least it makes you feel better for a while, because where else should you direct your anger to?

Oh, there is one other thing you can do: deny the existence of those facts, like this: "America is number one. I didn't even read the article. Didn't have to."

That's like "don't confuse me with facts, my mind is made up".

I don't think it's that. (Could be, since I don't know what's in the mind of others.) It just seemed to me like an "Okay...and???" type of post. Nothing new or groundbreaking in it. Be like someone posting a new thread entitled "What's wrong with the Treo?" and listing the problems it has. Okay, so we know this already...now what?

diagreeing with me, or the facts I presented? The disagreement from you seems to be that by criticizing, I am less patriotic than you.

many of you seem to think I should not post information that is "divisive". I guess thats the "your either with us or your against us" mentality. That if I don't like things here I should leave.

I'm not going anywhere. I'm going to keep posting information I think others should know, and I'm going to fight to change what I think is wrong with this country.. as spelled out clearly in my avatar.

Its not driving me crazy at all. you are the one that sounds like someone peed in your wheaties. I am enjoying watching you guys attack me, liberals, kennedy, dean... everything but the FACTS!

    oh yes..

Which part of nudist's quote seemed divisive to you? Is a list of fields in which the US are not No. 1 divisive in your view? Is it some sort of blasphemy?

    A Democrat's lexicon:

"To reach out" as in "Republicans should reach out." The process whereby the party that wins an election is supposed to adopt the policies of the party that loses the election.

"University." A place for the circulation of liberal ideas, where Republican professors are confined to the business school.

"Prairie dog." Chirpy, cuddly creature beloved of our constituents. Mislabeled "prairie dog" instead of "prairie rodent" by Meriwether Lewis in 1807. Embodies all the virtues of the animal kingdom, except that the species is probably not "endangered."

"Public land management." Don't go there.

"Advise and consent." The theory that Republican judicial nominees need the vote of 60 senators to be confirmed instead of a 51-vote majority. Not in the Constitution, but, hey, we've got to get the right result here.

"Universal suffrage." Probably not a good idea for red states.

    "Evangelical." A devil incarnate.

"George W. Bush." The head devil incarnate.

I don't think many people in the US know that infant mortality rates, homicide rates, are much higher, life expectancy much lower, etc., when compared to Europe.

To the contrary, my experience is that the people in the US are convinced that the US is No. 1 in most if not all fields (often based on lack of experience with life outside of the US). The outcry nudist's post caused also points into that direction, if you ask me.

Never said we weren't arrogant as a nation. That is a fact. Most of us get wiser with age, America has it's faults, but I certainly feel we're the best nation in the world.

I rather enjoy being an "Ugly American." Even with it's faults, there's no other country I'd rather be in.

When knowing Americans are about five times as likely to kill their fellow citizens, maybe we should be glad they have no intention of coming to Europe, even if it is only because they don't know about life here?

It is the rights talking point as of late. Sort of like what is going on with SS. Be very vague on your details, listen to other people's ideas,.......... them adopt them as your own.

Hey treobk214, where have you been so far?

I really enjoyed your post. Even though it was are 100 % predictable, it made me laugh because it totally fits to what I wrote about "attacking the messenger" when lacking arguments... Did you only write it to prove my point?

Maybe some moderators would consider your post a personal attack (even sort of "racist" because it was directed at the Swiss in general), but really, I find it funny, no problem from my side.

P.S.: I guess you didn't notice the smileys in my post? While it is true that the homicide rate is five times higher in the US when compared to e.g. Switzerland (a fact, regardless of you liking it or not), I don't REALLY mind about US citizens coming to Europe... Lots of them are extremely nice people, I know that.

Where are the whiners now, complaining about "devisiveness", "attacking the other party", "cutting and pasting", "not offering solutions" etc.

OH.. maybe that only applies to nudists.
