Please don't waste your time on these people. They are not willing ot see truth or use reason.

The fight now is to focus on those organizatins which will protect our First Amendment rights, the environment, etc.

I contribute to the ACLU and the EFF.

And one should make sure to pay attention to locally elected positions.

And MOST IMPORTANTLY don't let the rhetoric of "too far to the left" be believed. The Republicans want to keep shifting the Dems closer to their value(less) platform.

Explain please? Since when did standing up for the rights of american citizens become wrong?
  5. #25
Anytime I see someone knee-jerk against the ACLU I know they don't think about what they're saying and are just parroting what they hear others say.

    Edited to add:
Oh, and I believe you mean "epitome.".

They spend most of their time fighting against America as a whole, in support of an individual, despite what is in the public good.

Wow! That's a very positive description. I'm sorry you don't recognize that.

Epidemy - that's a good one. Looks like the Bush education cuts may be retroactive. hehe

    The ACLU = Communist party

The ACLU believes that all people should not only have equal rights but equal property, and there should be no reference to religon anywhere in the nation.

ACLU = destruction of morale values and societal bonds.

How is fighting against America, in support of an individual despite what is in the public good positive? Are you saying that the individual is more important than the country as a whole? Perhaps you would just rather we all do whatever and not worry about the effect it has on the rest of the people around us.

You could dump 1trillion/year into the school and our education would still suck compared to the rest of the world. We already spend more / pupil then any other country and have near the bottom of the result stack, money isn't the solution.

    Not True
"Compared to other countries, the United States spends the same amount per-student as France, less than Sweden and Canada, and more then Japan and West Germany. However, there is much range within the states. Alaska, Connecticut, New Jersey, and New York, for example all spend more than Sweden and Germany. Mississippi spends about as much as the countries who spend the least: Japan, Australia, Spain, and Hungary."

ACLU of New Jersey Successfully Defends Right of Religious Expression by Jurors (12/22/2004)
NEWARK, NJ-- The State Supreme Court ruled today that a prosecutor violated the New Jersey Constitution when he removed two jurors from a jury pool, one for wearing Muslim religious clothing and another for having engaged in missionary activity...

School prohibited from disciplining six students for distributing candy canes with religious message
    Tom Hutton
    Legal Clips, March 2003
A U.S. District Court in Massachusetts has issued a preliminary injunction prohibiting Westfield High School from disciplining six students for distributing candy canes containing religious messages in school. The court concluded that the students’ actions represented private expressive activity protected by the First Amendment and did not violate the Establishment Clause. As reported in the March 6, 2003, edition of Legal Clips, the dispute began when the students asked the principal if they could distribute the candy to fellow students during school hours. The principal, citing the district’s policy prohibiting schools from sponsoring religious devotions, denied their request. The stage for litigation was set when students distributed the candy in defiance of the principal. The students and the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) are hailing the court’s decision as a victory for student rights. ...

It's nice to see someone who doesn't think the ACLU is worth a crap is only expressing a knee-jerk reaction. Of course that has to be the case, because otherwise we might have observed their practices and methods and determined through thoughtful consideration that they dont have anyone's best interests at heart but their own. And since we know that you think anyone who disagrees with you isnt capable of forming their own opinion and is just a parrot, that must be all we are doing, knee-jerking.

It's so nice that you think you are smarter than pretty much everyone here. We are all too stupid to form our own opinions and you can spell better than anyone. Wow, color me impressed .

As far as DL's spelling error, we ALL knew what he meant. Even you, the perfect speller. Funny how only you felt the need to put him down. Funny, not surprising, but funny.
