And doesn't that suck? Personal integrity and responsibility have decreased to a point where you cannot "help" others without a 40 page legal document to protect yourself!

I think the old saying "you can pick your friends but you cant pick your family" pretty much covers that.

yeah we are feeling the lashback of what seemed like a good idea at the time (no cure no pay lawyers).
too bad it killed personal responsibility and common sense..

Woof, do you know the serial number of the laptop? If so, I would call the manufacturer of the laptop and report it stolen. Then if anyone calls into tech support, it will be flagged.

My company issues InterMec & NEC handheld computers (the ones that look like a mini laptop). One of the employess of another District Manager had an employee go MIA and never returned the computer. Two months later we get a call from their tech support with someone calling in to get help. Aparantly, with very little investigation from the info tech support supplied us, the (former) employee hocked it at a local pawn shop, who then sold it a customer. The pawn shop had full records of who sold it to them....which was of course our former employee. Now we have the computer back and the company is pressing charges...which will be a felony due to the cost of the computer and it's accessories (i.e. socket scanner, inverter for car charging, etc...).

If the guy who stole it, turned around and sold it, and they called tech support....or if the guy was really stupid and called himself they would have record of the last tech call with that SS#. Worth a shot.
