I would love to have the door locks to my house open with my finger print or eye retinas so I would never be able to lock myself out the house again by forgetting my keys when I close the door.

I would love to be able to leave my door unlocked with no concern that others would view that act as an invitation to make transfers of possession.

What do you think a 'Normal State' is? Place or setting?

Well, I'm still waiting for a "Treo Killer" owner or dealer to lend me a unit to test for a few days. So far, they've disappeared.

    Next big thing -- "Telematics"

Of course, you're asking what is telematics? Your answer

    And much much more!

    For starters:
    1) Turn the heater/air conditioner on/off before arriving home from your car
    2) Turn the lights on before arriving home from your car
    3) Select things from a menu of things you want Tivo to record from the car
    4) Answer/open/lock the front door remotely from the car for visitors
    5) Receive alerts and surveillance pictures on PDA when intrusions occur

I've been hearing about Telematics for 5 years now.

I worked in Wireless manufacturing for 15 years. If the cost factor is not under control the project will backfire. You've got to gear towards the masses, not only the technology elite. This lesson put many companies out of business.

It's like HDTV, Japan built an infrastruture 30+ years ago for an analog HDTV system. Once the infrastruture is in place for telematics, that is, broadband internet connectivity to WIFI appliances -- it will be done. That's an over simplification, but the cost of this stuff goes down everyday.

    Commericial Application
    --------------------------------------------------
Here is a commercial application for telematics. A fleet of cars can be managed at a distance. If suspects vandalism or theft, power to the car can be turned off.

If I can set up the modem capability (and find an analoge modem again ) I can do most of that with my X10 system..

With Homeseer you can do it without the modem.

    X10.......What? You said "most"!

I gave a few examples. Telematics will take things virtual:

    Outside Sprinkler Systems
    Virtual Refrigators
(Your refrigarator will keep data number of eggs, send pics of what's on hand -- e.g. milk carton has sensor that can be sent from your Refrigator to your PDA -- indicating how much milk remains in carton.)
    Dishwashers
    Intelligent Clothes Hangers/Racks
    and more.....
