I'm just trying to stir the pot a bit here (this started with a quick exchange in another thread). I have a few questions and I want everyone's opinion.

    1) Was the war in Iraq the "right thing to do".

    2) Do you believe Iraq is better off now that the US invaded?

    3) Do you believe Iraq will be better off in the future because of the US invasion?

    4) Do you believe Iraq will be better (than it was) in spite of the US invasion.(i.e. Iraq will be better off after the invasion but not directly related to anything the US does).

    5) Do you believe terrorism will get worse in the US because of the invasion?

    6) Do you believe terrorism will get worse outside of the US because of the invasion?

    7) Do you believe that the common iraqi views the US as a liberator or an occupier (we know the news shows us as occupiers).

    That's it....

    Happy New year everyone.

The answer to each of these questions is the same: "It depends on whom you ask."

Exactly. My guess is that 2 camps will predominate. And 3 guesses as to which ones?

    1) Was the war in Iraq the "right thing to do".
    Duh, no.

    2) Do you believe Iraq is better off now that the US invaded?
That's not a belief, it's a fact that Iraq, as a whole, is NOT better off.

    3) Do you believe Iraq will be better off in the future because of the US invasion? Nope, I believe he pending civil war will result in an Islamic fundamentalist gov't.

    4) Do you believe Iraq will be better (than it was) in spite of the US invasion. I don't get this?

    5) Do you believe terrorism will get worse in the US because of the invasion? No.

    6) Do you believe terrorism will get worse outside of the US because of the invasion? It will (has) in Iraq

    7) Do you believe that the common iraqi views the US as a liberator or an occupier (we know the news shows us as occupiers).
I believe the common Iraqi views the US as idiots.

    1) not sure
    2) in the short term no one is better off but in the long term I think the whole region will be.
    3) yep
    4) yep
    5) no, they are too busy in Iraq.
    6) no see 5.
    7) who can say. I havent talked to any iraqis about it. I would hope they are hopeful that the future will be better. Anyone who thinks that this sort of transition is going to take place in a week is a fool.

daThomas I think really it's you who thinks most Americans are idiots not the Iraqis.

I'll ask the same of you. Since both of you expressed an opinion (not a representation of a fact) it is only fair you cite evidence of Iraqis thinking the US is populated by idiots.

I just say that because you seem to think/feel/believe that most of the folks here that are not against the war or Bush are idiots. I cant think of any specific place where you have said just that but you've implied it on many occasions.

Judging by your "third party" answers duhThomas, I'd say you're really not educated enough to talk about the subject and probably speak more from your heart than anything. Which is not always a bad thing, but when it involves 265 million US citizens, there's more than just "your" feelings at stake.
America is not perfect. Our government is not perfect. But the premise that this country was built upon continues as strong today as it did 230 years ago when our founding fathers shed their blood for the freedoms we have today. It did not come free, it was not handed to us, and there was certainly nothing peaceful about it. The battle for our continued freedom will be one that wages for eternity. Mere man is not happy with peace alone...the human sole quenches something more to hold onto. There will ALWAYS be a battle to fight, a girl to win, and a dream to conquer. This country is no exception...our freedom will take the action of heroic men willing to stand up to those who threaten the very livelihood you take advantage of everyday.

I sure am glad George Washington didn't think like you.

I seriously doubt that George Washington would have made the same mistake that Bush did with Iraq.

That's why I like Bush. He doesn't over-think it. He wakes up every morning, jumps out of bed, lands on his two feet, scratches his balls, and says, "Let's kill some ***king terrorists!" ----Dennis Miller

It's like my Dad used to say, "At first, havin' your head up your *** is nice. It's warm, cozy and you feel protected. But after awhile, the **** starts to stink."

If it gets better it is because of a joint effort.

I think they seem them as both... they are happy the US got rid of sadam but are not happy with the current sitution. The country is also very divided, some people are pro-US others are very contra. But I guess the mayority feels they'd rather be left alone and live their lives..
