A brief history of the "freakish" chicken-and-waffle combo.
    BY JONATHAN KAUFFMAN

"People think chicken and waffles are a freakish combination, but it's not that odd of a dish," says John T. Edge, director of the Southern Foodways Alliance in Oxford, Mississippi, and author of the soon-to-be-published Fried Chicken: An American Story. What is LIBRA, an ancient Roman weight measurement equal to about 12 ounces? So if it was equal to about 12 ounces, why is a pound equal to 16 ounces?
