    Silenced by the President
    By Trish Bowcock
    Oct. 16, 2004

A few weeks before my father died, he woke me in the wee hours of the morning. He needed to talk. He was worried about Attorney General John Ashcroft and the destruction of American civil liberties. I comforted my father, believing he was delusional from medications. I was wrong.

I write this from my home in Jacksonville Oregon (population 2,226). President George W. Bush came here this week. The purpose of his visit was political. Southern Oregon has been deemed a ?battle ground? area in the presidential race. John Kerry has made incredible inroads in this traditionally Republican stronghold. President Bush?s campaign stop was an attempt to staunch the slide.

This story was more about the loss of the First Amendment. It is what many people have lost their lives to protect.

Lets keep in mind it was the local police who did this. Looks like Jacksonville (or surrounding area) needs to take a look at their own police force.

while there may be guidelines i'm pretty sure they don't include attack crowd w\ pepper spray. put that one on the local police force.

you find it odd that a small-town police dept isn't skilled in crowd control? I'm not.

Well how could this be a normal occurence? The circumstances that led to this are not typical. Regardless, the police chose to act in the manner they did. No human being is a pawn. By the way, I found this article about the incident.

Looks like the republicans are never responsible or accountable for repressive activities, whether it is destroying democrats' voter registrations, torturing prisoners at Abu Grahb and Guantanamo, or stifling dissent at EVERY Bush rally.... it's always just some "bad apples".

Nothing to see here folks, move on....

That's funny. Kerry has been nothing but a whiner, and I mean about everything. What really got him crying was the the Swift Boat guys. He didnt mind all the 527 attacks against Bush but here is how it really worked.

I don't see anything wrong with that chart.

Its always interesting to me how republicans don't deny or condemn such behavior, they rationalize and excuse it by "the other side is bad too!!"

I am certainly glad you're happy with the direction America is going clairegrrl. You must think we are alot better off than we were 4 years ago.

When Kerry was crying such big tears about the Swift Boat ads, I believe that Bush condemed all the 527 ads. I guess you didnt understand that part.

That's correct. He did not condemn the Swift boat ads at all. He FLIPFLOPPED his position on 527 ads and now opposes them since moveon.org has become such an influence that threatens him.
