One would think the military had some measure of insight into the process, more than most of us.

Of course, missing in the entire discussion of proper force levels is the effect of Turkey's last minute refusal to allow the Army's 4th Infantry Division to enter Iraq from the north. They were forced to go through Kuwait, and fundamentally changed the war plan. In all likelyhood, there would have been no Sunni insurgency if the original plan had gone forward.

And speaking of facts, it is a fact that the troops in Iraq support Bush over Kerry by a ratio of almost 3-1.

Talldog, you have those facts 100% correct. Our military respects leadership and those who show it. Bush shows it. Kerry's four months of whatever it was in Viet Nam and his 20 years in the Senate, display no leadershp qualities.

The only leader in the Kerry group is Mother Ketchup. Dang shame Daddy Ketchup died, I miss Heinz ketchup in my household.

Why would there be no Sunni insurgency if the 4th Infantry Division would have entered Iraq through Turkey instead of Kuwait? The insurgency started after "mission accomplished", meaning long after the 4th Infantry Division had arrived...

Because the original plan was for the 4th to take the northern part of the country and move south to meet the 3rd. The Sunni triangle would have been a battleground, rather than becoming a hiding place. Also, the 3rd had to keep moving north rather than pacifying the areas they had just taken. A lot of bad guys got away because of the time it took for the 4th to move up from Kuwait.

You bring up a good point here - that the military's concerns about Bush's mishandling of the war arise from observation, not politics.
