clulup, I might be wrong but I don't think Charley was supposed to hit the Carolinas as of last Thursday when Muziek left. I remember reading back then that the computer predicted the storm to fizzle and become a tropical, and much weaker, storm. Perhaps that's what Muziek was thinking. Then again she's a lawyer and you know how stubborn lawyers can be.
Don't tell me about lawyers... both of my sisters are!

Some of the modern Olympic sports still seem quite mysterious to me. I can understand that in Beach Volleyball the women teams wear what they wear - it is called "beach" volleyball after all. But why do men play in shorts and t-shirts, and not in swimsuits as well? Is that fair towards the female spectators?

I really worry about your testosterone levels at times. Next you'll be asking why it's acceptable for straight women to call their female friends 'girlfriends' but not acceptable for straight men to call their male friends 'boyfriends'.

No, my next question would have been: Why did Saudi-Arabia not send a women beach volleyball team? Don't they have sand and beaches, too?

Or: is Beach Volleyball really ACDriver's favourite sport at the Olympics?

I have a similar question about golf. Why professional women golfer allowed to golf wearing shorts while men aren't? And why golf isn't an olympics sport (or is it? I can't remember, and I refuse to google...lol).
Have you seen the South African 4x100 free-style relay team? Wow! I wonder if Chick saw that, she loves swimming!

Maybe male golfers don't tend to have nice legs?
And why golf isn't an olympics sport (or is it? I can't remember, and I refuse to google...lol).
It isn't... probably because the Olympics don't pay well enough? Look at the US Basketball team: not really the best, for similar reasons? I mean, Puerto Rico - US, 92:73?

What's the deal there? Do the US have a 'proper' national team, or do they cobble one together for the Olympics? I mean, with the status of basketball about as high over here as shoe-knitting, I'm not sure if there's an international competition with any status? Not that we take the football particularly seriously in the Olympics.

clu: regarding 'nice legs' who is to decide? How do you judge that?
And abut the US basketball team, I think the US needs to send its best college team, not a bunch of pros with attitude...

Good question... I think professional golfers should be free to wear shorts regardless of whether they are male of female, and also skirts if they wish... Why not skirts? There must be some good male Scottish golfers as well?

Not that I am into math a whole lot (I am actually not half-bad), but I figured that Chick's last post was #1731. That's 368 posts ago. It must be a record for her. Hey m00sie, are yo gonna tell me that Emerald Isle does not have even one Internet facility in which she can post? 'Comon now, what's the scoop with the blonde?

Secretary ronbo0002, what's up with your boss? Have you received any word from her? How did her bikini hold up in the storm?

Oops, I am impressed with you math skills. Not bad for a dopey kitten. But you'd have to ask Chick when she gets back home about the internet availability at the Isle (I know her Treo doesn't work there and she called us via landline phone). Meanwhile, stay cool and purrrrrrrrrr efficiently

I can see that we have lost several posts in this thread. Boo! I also wanted to point out to ACD that although the "word association" thread is growing fast, it is somewhat a horse of a different color (to borrow from the Wizard of OZ). Posters use one word on the average in that thread which are, consequently, hardly qualify as posts.
Anyhow, Clu, here are some issues to content with, if you will. I remember you did that mathematics with number of medals per capita. When you look at the US as a whole, perhaps the number of medals won by this giant country are skewed. But if you break the number of medals into state-by-state you'd find interesting data. For example: the population of Arizona is 5,130,632. In the 2000 Olympics Arizona had won a total of 8 medals in swimming. That's a mighty stat.
Now back to the beach volleyball attire issue. The WSJ today has an interesting article on this subject (see attached).

NC was absolutely FUN! But I missed this busy, crowded, polluted and diversified city so-very much. Back in NYC and my OVERLOADED desk. Greetings from Chick, by the way

Hey Muziek. Glad you are OK and that things worked out! How was the beach after the storm?

Ok, another tragic, tragic loss of posts on TC.... all those post about prophetic gifts, the drama about Roger Federer and our Judo hope losing, the delight of the first Swiss olympic medal this year (equivalent to 40 US gold medals, I have to add), the wonderful (to me ) story about our future Olympic hope Karin Jaggi, who, as m00se stated, looks a bit like Chick-Dance, who will start her windsurfing training ASAP (according to m00se) in order to be ready for the next Olympics, and me considering sacrificing myself and giving her some introductory lessons... all of this lost?

Oh well, I guess will just have to cope with it, somehow...

Hello Rich and Pretty Guitarist. Glad you didn't die in that nasty storm. Now please tell me this: for a fancy isle as Emerald, where lots of tourists and rich people flock to, you gonna tell me that there's no Internet connection anywhere for Chick? Is she avoiding us on purpose? I am highly suspicious of this phenomenon!

So Arizona is the place where the US medals come from?

Regarding your attatchment about Beach Volleyball (thanks!): glad to see I wasn't the only one who noticed that the dress of the male players is unfair to female spectators, when compare to vice-versa.
