    Ok since you insist: I did receive that wish, but - I mean Chick-Dance, really!

    Or did I get you wrong, was there some interference?

    Iraq is the home of OUR culture, I'd love to go there one day, when it's calmed down. Maybe in 20 years you reckon?

    ay, there's the rub!!

    We are finally(!) back to Shakespeare, at his best:

    To be, or not to be, that is the question:-
    Wheter 't is nobler in the mind to suffer
    The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune;
    Or to take arms against a sea of troubles,
    And by opposing end them? - To die, - to sleep; -
    No more; - and, by a sleep, to say we end
    The earth-ache,and the thousand natural shocks
    The flesh is heir to, - 't is a consummation
    Devoutly to be wish'd. To die, - to sleep: -
    To sleep! perchance to dream: - ay, there's the rub;
    For in that sleep of death what dreams may come,
    When we have shuffled of this mortal coil,
    Must give us pause.

    PeterBrown, is it actually true that sometimes airplanes can just fall apart without warning from fatigue of material?

  14. #1214
    metal fatigue is well understood nowadays. it used to be known as 'metal disease'. I really wouldn't worry about it chick, they're designed not to fall apart very often.

    Is it true what I have been reading here that this thread has set a new record for number of posts?! If so, I think TC-admin should congratulate Chick, and all other contributers, for this achievement! Bravo

    sorry about the mobile forum weirdness.
    if you want a more reassuring answer metal fatigue doesn't affect aluminium, which the bulk of the aeroplane is made of. it only affects metals like steel or with a similar microstructure to steel.
    of course, the landing gear is made from steel... (couldn't be totally reassuring now could i?)

    the window frames as well maybe. in fact quite a lot is made from steel, just not the skin and the main body supports.
