Sony Finds More Cases of Hacking of Its Servers - NYTimes.com

Sony said Monday that it had discovered that more credit card information and customer profiles had been compromised during an attack on its servers that took place last week.

In a press release issued by Sony, the company said that it had discovered hackers had gained access to the Sony Online Entertainment servers, which house approximately 24.6 million customer accounts and 12,700 credit card and debit card numbers. Sony said the hackers might have stolen this information, but the company could not be sure.

If this is true, then maybe Sony did fail.

"Panelists joined in. Dr. Gene Spafford of Purdue testified that Sony's system was weak, and that those weaknesses had been revealed on security mailing lists months before the breach. According to Spafford, key parts of Sony's PlayStation Network ran on Apache servers that "were unpatched and had no firewall installed." This was reported in a forum known to be frequented by Sony employees, he said, though no changes were made in the months leading up to the attack."

"A Secret Service investigator at the hearing said that they could, adding that in his view, 96 percent of such breaches could have been avoided through straightforward, well-known security techniques. "

HP has officially ruined it's own platform and kicked webOS loyalists and early TouchPad adopters to the curb. You think after you drop it like a hot potato and mention it made no money and is costing you money, anyone else wants it??? Way to go HP!!

And some people are fools to keep believing their hype. HP has shown they will throw webOS under the bus and people are still having faith in them??? News flash: if it's own company won't stand behind it, it's finished!
