Honestly, the $75 dollar yearly fee is no different than a tax, it's just collected by a slightly different method. Makes it appear less "socialistic".

I don't blame you for disowning them (I figure you'd probably not repeal the civil rights amendment) but I am curious as to what candidates you think are Tbaggers? Although he's criticized the birthers, an awful lot of people characterize Buck as a member of that august group (Think Progress » Tea Party candidate Ken Buck on abortion: ‘I don’t believe in the exceptions of rape or incest.’). Who knows what Paul is. He certainly isn't a libertarian with his gay rights stance.

A really sad way to learn a lesson....or make a "stand".

WOW The fact that you guys are OK with the fact that the fire dept did NOTHING to save this mans home shows A LOT about your guys character. I know that we are not supposed to put anyone down on this board, but to me, this just shows how truly un-American you really are. Is how you learn to "love thy neighbor" in your bible? The fact that you guys have no problem with a man losing all that owns because he paid his taxes, but not a stupid $75 annual fee, is flat out IGNORANT on your part, and I have ZERO respect for you as a fellow human...

He paid his taxes...none of which paid for fire service in his area. Those services were provided by another town. That town charges $75 per house if you want their services. It was an OPTIONAL CHARGE the man thought he didn't have to pay. Do some research and read the facts before you get all hot and bothered.

I see you didn't notice or care to notice that I mentioned that it was "cruel" to not help him even after he offered to pay. Thanks so much for assuming the worst of me, but if I was his neighbor, I would have gotten out my hose to help. Did his neighbors do anything before they realized their houses were in danger?

You also do not seem to have a grasp on the word "ignorant." Since I seem to have a better grasp as to the facts of this story, I'd say you are the "ignorant" one here. So step back and cool off.

I think you're missing the whole point about the tea party. Cherry picking and applying a litmus test on one candidate is easy, but pointless. On many topics, tea party members are all over the board. It's the few important issues that brings them together; stop the gov bailouts, fiscal responsibility, repealing Obamacare, etc.

Also, I'm not a tea party member, so there's no disowning on my part.

BTW, Chris Christie is awesome. Wonder if he's considering a run in 2012? I'm thinking a Christie/Palin ticket would be pretty amazing to watch.

You said it was cruel but then you ended with this, "That about sums up what people expect from government. They want all the services-so long as someone else is paying for it."

People tend to end with the points they want to emphasize and I'm betting that implied accusation is what he got upset about with your statement. After all, the story said he was willing to pay whatever it would cost to have them put out the fire.

This actually brings up part of the issue with taxes and insurance and why it's sometimes better to simply collect these public service fees through taxes rather than trying to collect the taxes through some kind of "subscription" fee.

...and stopping socialism in the White House, taking back our country from ourselves, using second amendment solutions when you don't like the way things are going, doing away with the minimum wage, claiming the president is a Kenyan racist socialist Muslim....you left out a few things that brings them together.

A list of wacko things that are dismissed by that same side or are accepted as "mainstream" by that side? The issue there would be that the things dismissed are on a comparable level of wacko-ness to the things accepted by the other side.

Sadly, this man did not pay the fee so the fire dept came to the fire, did nothing, and just watched his home and all of his belongings burn to the ground.
That's not what happened at all. "Socialism" never came into play at all. The town's fire department is simply for the residents of the town. It does not cover the rest of the county. The residents in the rural areas of county are not covered unless they pay a $75 fee. The system in play is stupid, but its not because the town folk didn't like socialism. And not exactly decent of the firemen that were water coating the neighbor to prevent the fire from spreading. They should have put the fire out simply out of decency. The town would have had balls of steel to do anything about it, so its unlikely they would have been fired after the fact.

That been said why the state of Tennessee doesn't provide a budget to fill in gaps in the system so that all residents can get fire department coverage is beyond me. If there is ever an example of a state failing to do its job this is it.

The left likes to point out any government managed service that most agree to share in the cost of as proof that socialism works.

And when you, personally, say "socialism" are you actually referring to socialism or using it in place of the word communism?

I'm afraid I'll need some help. What I hear are things like "all the republicans want to do is destroy Obama so they refuse to even vote for bills they sponsored". Or "the far right wing is composed of people like birthers, militias, truthers, and paranoid schizophrenics". Or "the republicans got us into an economic disaster and now they want to continue that trend".

You know, things that are true.

Amazing how the left can't own their mess. But then, that's the tendancy of the left - blame others and expect others to bail them out.

So....are you saying that taxing everyone in order to provide a service that may only be needed by some, and will never be needed by others is NOT socialism?

I'm sure glad my fire department isn't a bunch of raging socialists. Of course, the same taxation applied to health care somehow is socialist....right?

First....and let me make this clear, crystal clear, that I couldn't give a flying what you do or don't think of me. Seriously, who are you? Why would I care whether you have zero respect for me? LOL Your post could possibly be the funniest attack of me yet. Oh sure, I find it amusing when davidra says I'm a racist or child killer, but your post....rofl....good one.

Besides....you apparently didn't read my post. It was a sad situation and a very difficult lesson to learn and it really sucked. All I said was that if I got a notice in the mail, saying I had to pay $75 or not have protection from a fire I would have made other arrangements. Would that not be the smart thing to do? Apparently he didn't feel his house was worth $75. I respect him for making a stand, but if you make such a stand to make a point, be prepared for the consequences. I salute him for having balls.

Geez....I don't know what I'm going to do now that you have no...."zero"....respect for me. I probably won't be able to sleep tonight. I mean, some guy name whateverator doesn't respect me....what will I do....what will I do? I know what you should do.....grow up.
