Every year the Wife Unit and myself end up doing a spring trip to Europe. The impetuous is the the yearly ECCMID conference, which is in Milan this year. As usual we are going to find an apartment/flat rather than a hotel. We find that generally an apartment is cheaper, quieter and much more spacious. It also allows us to hit the local market, dine in and cook our own meal one night. Being as we are to be in Italy I'm pretty excited about that.

Anyway, for those that have traveled to Milan before and also gone the apartment route can you recommend anything?

The conference is at the Fair Grounds (Fiera Campionaria) but I think we would like to stay in the historic city center area closer to shopping, food and sights.

    ---

Additionally I would take any recommendations on must see sights in the area (or "don't bother with it" sights). Also we usually plan a 3-5 day side trip after the conference is complete so if you have any recommendations for a destination within 4hrs or so (by train) I would take that too.

    Thanks all

You know your town is boring when the first thing Google Maps thinks to label in your city is the Post Office.
