Anything you buy used from e-bay carries some risk. I've bought stuff before, paid via paypal and the seller never sent the item. I had to make a claim, but only got back a couple of dollars on a $15 item.

Regardless, the first thing you'll want to do is run webOS doctor and start fresh...

To use the safest route, pay via paypal, so you get the buyer protection and make sure the Pre you pick has a clean ESN.

Thanks about that the 1st item I put a bid on I asked the seller about the ESN and they said it was not clean so I moved on to the next. I would have gotten stuck with a dud.

Electronic Serial Number. It's a unique number assigned to each device.

I usually only use around six patches or so. Most of them are ones I made for myself.

If I buy a used one I should not have a problem with my carrier to transfer it over as long as it is clean right?

Electronic Serial Number, some companies, like Sprint, use it to track a phone. If someone doesn't pay their bill, they blacklist it, so no one can activate the phone.

As long as you buy a Pre for your carrier and the ESN is clean, you'll have no issues.

How do the Change Machines know the difference between a dime and a penny?
When it counts up the dimes, what keeps them from slipping into the penny slot?

Yes. I accidentally left that out. CDMA uses an ESN, GSM uses an IMEI(?) number.

Just had the funniest call from someone trying to access the server. Wanted her password reset. I looked up her old password and it was bigboobs.....

I told her what it was and she said, "You can see that?"

    "Uh, yep"

The ones I'm familiair with have a censor for the ridges on the side. Not sure how they keep them from slipping through, though.

It's magic. Yes, magic has actually existed for quite some time now. However, it is a closely guarded secret in the 'change machine' industry.
