+1 the amount of times I press the "thanks" button would certainly be higher if it was on the mobile site.
  4.    #10064
I'm always on the mobile side too (at least 99.2% of the time).

I think when somebody specifically asks to be thanked, it's pretty rude. It's like a waiter asking you to tip him after he's served you.

I'm in the process of [thanking] the first 10,000 posts in this thread to at least give you guys something for reaching the 10,000 mark in just two months.

Some of you will end-up with a few hundred extra [thanks] by the time i finish.

It's just a gesture to show my appreciation to all of you for keeping this friendly and successful.

I know that these [thanks] don't mean anything in the real-world, but i at least wanna show that the thought is there; and we all know what they say about the thought, right?

    Have a great day, everybody.

they do mean something, dbd. I think society downplays their meaning, and that is why common courtesy isn't as prevalant as it once was. (at least in my experiences)

Exactly. Of course they mean something. Either you agree, or the post deserves thanking. Or it can be just a friendly virtual pad on the shoulder. Nothing wrong with that right.

I once made a joke about sudoer thanking EVERYONE in an old thread about him being the designated thanks-giver; he THANKED me

I think the concensus is that they are less meaningful in the OT threads, or when given for content-free posts, or when given by phantom users to project value.

thanks for being tuely helpful should be given, but if it's given too often it can lose it's value.

bet when we say they aren't worth anything, mostly we mean that you can't cash them in for a P|C title or otherwise translate them to tangible value.

for me, I wish we'd add a "slap" button like some other forums have. it's another fun way to express or with hold approval for technical posts (not appropriate for off-topic, of course. no slaps allowed in OT).

my opinion only. if you agree, thank GUYFROMNAM. if you don't agree, thank *erkel*.

workerw@sp, are you turning this into a towelslapping extravanganza between Erckul and me? Because we expect to be payed (not thanked), if that's the case

Yeah, everyone in this thread should thank all your posts.
That would be a blast. A real rush.

I just want to thank all the people who thank people. And if you've thanked me, I thank you for thanking me. If I've thanked you, and you thanked me in return, then I want to thank you again for thanking me when I thanked you. If you don't thank people, I still want to thank you for not thanking me even if I thanked you, because I am thankful like that. No thanks are necessary for this post, but if you must thank me, I'll thank you in advance. Thanks for listening!

Three guys were riding in a car: a hardware technician, a systems analyst, and a programmer. The systems analyst is driving and when they come to a steep hill, he finds that the brakes have failed and the car is accelerating out of control.

So, the driver pumps the emergency brake, downshifts the gears, and rubs the wheels' rims against the curb. He finally wrestles the car to a stop. The three climb out and check out the situation.

Hardware tech: "Let's try and fix it. I'll crawl under the car and take a look. "

Systems analyst: "No. I think we should get someone qualified to fix it, a specialist in brakes."

Programmer: "Why don't we just get back in and see if it happens again?"
