    This is a full 5 day week for me. My company doesn't give us a specific holiday day off when a holiday falls on a Saturday - they give us a floater for any day we want. I will be taking mine next week.

    I wad be laith to rin an' chase thee,
    Wi' murd'ring pattle!

    I'm truly sorry man's dominion,
    Has broken nature's social union,
    An' justifies that ill opinion,
    Which makes thee startle
    At me, thy poor, earth-born companion,
    An' fellow-mortal!

    I doubt na, whiles, but thou may thieve;
    What then? poor beastie, thou maun live!
    A daimen icker in a thrave
    'S a sma' request;
    I'll get a blessin wi' the lave,
    An' never miss't!

    Thy wee bit housie, too, in ruin!
    It's silly wa's the win's are strewin!
    An' naething, now, to big a new ane,
    O' foggage green!
    An' bleak December's winds ensuin,
    Baith snell an' keen!

    Thou saw the fields laid bare an' waste,
    An' weary winter comin fast,
    An' cozie here, beneath the blast,
    Thou thought to dwell-
    Till crash! the cruel coulter past
    Out thro' thy cell.

    That wee bit heap o' leaves an' stibble,
    Has cost thee mony a weary nibble!
    Now thou's turn'd out, for a' thy trouble,
    But house or hald,
    To thole the winter's sleety dribble,
    An' cranreuch cauld!

    But, Mousie, thou art no thy lane,
    In proving foresight may be vain;
    The best-laid schemes o' mice an 'men
    Gang aft agley,
    An'lea'e us nought but grief an' pain,
    For promis'd joy!

    Still thou art blest, compar'd wi' me
    The present only toucheth thee:
    But, Och! I backward cast my e'e.
    On prospects drear!
    An' forward, tho' I canna see,
    I guess an' fear!

    I have not winced nor cried aloud.
    Under the bludgeonings of chance
    My head is bloody, but unbowed.

    Beyond this place of wrath and tears
    Looms but the Horror of the shade,

    Remind anyone of a certain person around here?

    I'm not sure the full experience is conveyed in this medium. In a large format book this poem is more interesting I think. It is most interesting viewed in a mix of poems by many poets not in the context of ee cummings only...

    EDIT - now I see it.
    Note that it is lower case which is in context "whatever gods may be" able to be read as compatible with my view which is Atheistic...

    meh, craig's list is useless. Trying to find a cheap Plus to upgrade the wife's phone. All the listings are for businesses and they want 199+ for the phone. E-bay scares me cause they are all "damaged" and it is unclear what condition they are actually in. I'd like to see it in person and put my paws on it before buying. The wife swears she wants to wait for the "next" device and not waist money +'ing her Pre now, but at the same time she gets mad everytime she sees how fast I open up apps.

    On a humorous note, I just had a post on the site I work for, a woman wanted to know if certain pills she took would cause an abortion/miscarriage, she said she is 6 weeks pregnant and a virgin.

    Yeah, sorry, it doesn't work that way!

    Ditto. But the concept of a god vs. a God would be to my mind the difference between a myth and a true story.

    Literal Godhood isn't required - it is afterall a literary work in poetic form not a factual story in prose...

    Anything that mentions a god or gods is a myth!
