Here I was thinking that my computer was doing pretty good. At 3 years old, I could still play most stuff, so I didn't think twice when my computer met the minimum specs for StarCraft 2.

    Oooooooooooooooooohhhh boy..................

StarCraft 2 uses 1.3 gb of RAM................................................................................................. .........................

I have very rarely maxed out my memory... lol... sitting at 95% utilization....

Seems I need an upgrade or two.

I went through the same issue a few months ago - maxing out my old system. I ended up buying parts through TigerDirect and building a new setup. You can get a fast, rockin', system for under $400-$500 if you put it together yourself. Definitely worth it!

I think it is a conspiracy. Blizzard, NVIDIA, ATI, and the Obama Administration got together to make me spend more money to make my 60 dollar game work.

As a second note, if I have a better video card with a gig or so of memory, I should be fine, right? It should stop using system memory for video.....? Right now, I am at 256mb.

If you have a video card with a gig, I would imagine it would work. But... I also know that some of those cards don't work 'fully' on older systems.

I do believe there is a conspiracy afoot... yes, my dear Watson... a game is in play and we are the pieces.

you can pick up the ram slack with a video card that has its own dedicated memory. If your system is super old, you may be left looking for a AGP card as opposed to the newer PCIe cards. Do you know how many slots you have for ram?

Also if the game is just running slowly but it is running, try setting up a clean boot when you want to play. This disables unnecessary processes.

    1. In the System Configuration Utility dialog box, click the General tab, and then click Selective Startup.
    2. Click to clear the Process SYSTEM.INI File check box.
    3. Click to clear the Process WIN.INI File check box.
    4. Click to clear the Load Startup Items check box. Verify that Load System Services and Use Original BOOT.INI are checked.
    5. Click the Services tab.
    6. Click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box.
    7. Click Disable All, and then click OK.
    8. When you are prompted, click Restart to restart the computer.

System is only a couple of years old, so 20 years old in computer years. I have two PCIe slots and 3 slots for RAM. I only have 2gig in there now, and I will likely put 2-2gers in there later this week.

As for doing a clean boot, that is a good idea, but I would rather it run without doing that.

I have my Pre, a Netbook, and an Ipad. This game has me highly considering jumping back into a desktop. I want it so bad...I must resist.

I saw the commercial and it looks awesome.... but in the past, the graphics in the commercial outshine the graphics in the actual game. Do the game graphics actually compare?
