Animal cruelty isn't excusable, especially when the cat did what is in it's nature to do. If the cat had killed a child that would have been another story.

Are humans not animals as well?

Animals with the somewhat unique ability to reason.

I guess it would depend on the situation, I haven't heard about this yet so I can't make an educated comment. I know that when a Pit Bull attacked my dog, i would have shot the pit bull if I had a gun. I know I was trying to rip it's throat out (didn't succeed), but I eventually was able to rescue my dog. Luckily my dog lived with multiple injuries and stitches. Now if after the fact I came back and killed the pit bull, I can understand charges.

A link to a news article describing the situation might be helpful when starting a thread like this.

What if the bird laid golden eggs? Man, that would be one dead cat in my house!

Depends on how many golden eggs I had, and if I had a nest to keep them in.

Is it not required by law to register cats? (Yeah, I realize most are too cheap to actually do that) Are they not considered property in CA whether registered or not?

If you're implying that cats are rodents, you might wish to sleep lightly tonight. They may come after you!

Yeah.... cats hate rodents that much. It's quite unsettling.

would it be different if he took it to the vet and had them put it down? Or would they arrest the vet? I've never had to put a pet down, so I don't know if you need a reason before the vet will do that.

And yes, the fact that I didn't have pets growing up means I never had to put it down when it got old, and yes - it also explains a lot about what is wrong with me due to such a deprived childhood!!!
