New Harris Poll Finds Nearly One Fourth of Republicans Believe Obama May Be the Antichrist | Firedoglake

No, this isn’t an Onion headline. Yes, it is yet another poll that shows Republicans are out of their f****** minds.
On the heels of health care, a new Harris poll reveals Republican attitudes about Obama: Two-thirds think he’s a socialist, 57 percent a Muslim—and 24 percent say “he may be the Antichrist.”
In fairness, that question was clearly designed to make conservatives look bad. I mean, it’s completely possible that Obama may be the Antichrist. Has anyone thoroughly checked him for the Mark of the Beast? How can really we be sure?
Other findings of the Harris poll, due out tomorrow, include:
    • 67 percent of Republicans (and 40 percent of Americans overall) believe that Obama is a socialist
    • 45 percent of Republicans (25 percent overall) agree with the Birthers in their belief that Obama was “not born in the United States and so is not eligible to be president”
    • 38 percent of Republicans (20 percent overall) say that Obama is “doing many of the things that ****** did”
I’m surprised that only about half of the polled Goopers are birthers — that feels low to me.
But we shouldn’t be surprised that nearly 40% think he’s the second coming of Adolf ******, since elected Republicans and clowns like Glenn Beck and the Pantload make the comparison often
Yep. Nice party you got there indeed. Intelligent, too.

These numbers all come from a brand-new Harris poll, inspired in part by my new book Wingnuts. It demonstrates the cost of the campaign of fear and hate that has been pumped up in the service of hyper-partisanship over the past 15 months. We are playing with dynamite by demonizing our president and dividing the United States in the process. What might be good for ratings is bad for the country.

The poll, which surveyed 2,230 people right at the height of the health-care reform debate, also clearly shows that education is a barrier to extremism. Respondents without a college education are vastly more likely to believe such claims, while Americans with college degrees or better are less easily duped. It's a reminder of what the 19th-century educator Horace Mann once too-loftily said: "Ignorance breeds monsters to fill up the vacancies of the soul that are unoccupied by the verities of knowledge."

The full results of the poll, which will be released in greater detail tomorrow, are even more frightening: including news that high percentages of Republicans—and Americans overall—believe that President Obama is "racist," "anti-American" "wants the terrorists to win" and "wants to turn over the sovereignty of the United States to a one-world government." The "Hatriot" belief that Obama is a "domestic enemy" as set forth in the Constitution is also widely held—a sign of trouble yet to come. It's the same claim made by Marine Lance Corporal Kody Brittingham in his letter of intent to assassinate the President Obama.

Really? This is where you are going to go? What possible good do you think will be gained from this? Perhaps you are the Anti-Christ?

Excuse me? You don't think Harris Polls should be discussed? The possible good is pointing out to independents how similar a considerable percentage of the republican party is to a large group of cretins. You have a problem with that? And I also want to see how many people embrace their party affiliations. I think that's worthwhile.

I quote from the responses on the site you referenced -

As much as I hate republicans, this ‘poll’ is downright stupid.

What do you think any liberal with a brain cell would say if the question was, ‘Do you think dik cheney was the anti christ?’

    OK
    he is the devil incarnate….
I think you will get the same results from brainiacs on the left. You love to take the results of the few and extrapolate that to refer to everyone. Then you must likewise think that all Democrats are cretins.

    Hello Everyone,

How does this compare to the number of Democrats that think he is the second coming of Christ?

BA-DUM-BUM! Thank you, I'll be here all week.

Actually, I won't be wasting time on another meaningless thread, that essentially repeats what we all know--Davidra is a Republican-phobe.

    funny poll.

I do find it ironic that that Jesus Christ gave up his material possessions and walked the earth healing the the poor and sick. Obama brought health care to the poor and sick. But somehow Obama is the "anti-christ". Seems his actions are, in fact, quite Christlike.

Bush is H I T L E R/Cheney is the Devil etc... just because no one has put together a poll asking stupid questions to ill informed Democrats doesn't mean that the far left isn't populated with as many, or more, crazies as the far right.

You will lose this argument, so don't keep trying. My point wasn't to excuse the morons that think Obama is the Anti-Christ, just to point out that our kooks do not define us, just as the imbeciles on the far left do not define you.

This is my final word. It really is disingenuous to assume that one side or the other is the root of all evil. Getting really tired of the left vs. right crap.

Some of those numbers are quite telling, like the birthers one.

The republican leadership needs to get a new message before 2010.

Really nice of you to determine who wins and loses this argument. It won't be you, thanks very much. I'd be tired of the right versus left crap too if my side was represented by the kind of idiots that are shown at Town Hall meetings and Teabagger events. The fact is that your kooks DO define you. Are republicans the "root of all evil"? Nope, not at all. But a large percentage of your followers are morons, teabaggers and illiterate racists. You want to prove something different? Then just do a similar poll, using a national pollster, and provide something similar for democrats. Until then, your "final word" is no more valuable than any republican's opinion.

Tell me, Pogey....do YOU support the pubic option?

I would hope, for the future of the political process, that reasonable leadership can arise. Unfortunately, the demonization of the left has resulted in death threats to the family of Dem Congressmen, bricks thrown through Democratic Headquarters on more than one occasion this week, guns at meetings, etc.

More anger leads to more viewers / listeners for those who are inciting them, which is the plan, of course.

Some more of the fine upstanding republicans....

It wasn’t quite the shot heard around the world, but the sound of glass shattering at Democratic Party offices around the country has put the spotlight on former militiaman Mike Vanderboegh, who furiously called on followers last Friday to protest health care reform by breaking Democratic windows.

Vanderboegh posted his message on his blog, Sipsey Street Irregulars, calling for “all modern Sons of Liberty” to break the windows of local Democratic Party offices. Since that time, Democratic offices across the country have reported windows smashed in an apparent response to health care reform. Vanderboegh called health care reform backers “collectivists” and added that they “certainly do not hear the soft ‘snik-snik’ of cleaning rods being used on millions of rifle barrels in this country by people who have decided their backs are to the wall.”

“[I]f you wish to send a message that [House Speaker Nancy] Pelosi and her party cannot fail to hear, break their windows,” the Pinson, Ala., blogger wrote. “Break them NOW. Break them and run to break again. Break them under cover of night. Break them in broad daylight. Break them and await arrest in willful, principled civil disobedience. Break them with rocks. Break them with slingshots. Break them with baseball bats. But BREAK them.”
A call for guns will likely be next
