My Windows Vista PC took a crap (was watching TV, randomly restarted, and kept looping restarts.) After using a Vista repair disk, it now gets as far as the dreaded Vista "black screen with mouse pointer" problem. I'd just reinstall Windows Vista, but I purchased this through Windows Market place, which doesn't exist anymore, and I didn't make a back-up copy via DVD. I've tried a few things as pointed out on some forums (bad event files, running CHKDSK), but to no avail.

I plan on purchasing Windows 7 on the Oct 22, but I can't wait that long! My computer runs as my TV, DVD player, personal and work computer. But I don't want to repurchase Vista.

Does anyone know of any help?

I read it would ship as early as tomorrow on some new machines but I don't know how you're going to get a legal copy by itself before next week.

I ended up joining the rest of my group... moved up from OEM purchases to a technet subscription. Will also get Office 2010 when it ships... all good.

Been messing around with win 7 since... and all the other OS systems.

Had a rebate and got technet for $280...

Not good if you don't truly evaluate software like I do...

Technet or MSDNN if you're a CS student.

Your post provided me with a good laugh.

Almost like you were saying those two OSs are in the same league or something.
