Here is my last stab at the President.

A vehicle getting 15 mpg and 12,000 miles per year uses 800 gallons a year of gasoline.

A vehicle getting 25 mpg and 12,000 miles per year uses 480 gallons a year.

So, the average Clunker transaction will reduce US gasoline consumption by 320 gallons per year.

They claim 700,000 vehicles – so that's 224 million gallons per year.

That equates to saving a bit over 5 million barrels of oil per year. I repeat - per YEAR.

5 million barrels of oil is about ¼ of one day's U.S. consumption.

And, 5 million barrels of oil costs about $350 million dollars at $75/bbl.

Our Government "gave" each Clunker Trader $4,500 per car for 700,000 transactions which cost US Taxpayers $3,150,000,000 (that would be 3.15 BILLION dollars) - not including Washington's astounding Administrative costs.

So, we all contributed through our taxes to spend more than $3 billion to save $350 million.

How good a deal was that?

They'll probably do a great job with health care, though.

I'm pretty sure GE owns NBC, not Fox. Rupert Murdoch owns Fox.

Why is it always the simple ones?

For example: Did anyone hear about the 2-3 million people protesting at the white house last month? I had to look that up on the internet. I heard and saw nothing on the news.
Uh News Corp owns Fox... The "protests" you speak of? The 9/12 protests? That conservatives on the internet lied about, claiming there were 2million people when all reality there was only 60-70k? Those protests?

You admitted in your own post that the 350 million saved is PER YEAR. The 3 billion is, thus far, a 1 time thing, meaning in 10 years, the money saved will outweigh the money spent. Sounds like a sound investment to me, especially considering the savings increase as the price of a barrel of oil increases.

People if the man wants an anti Obama theme, then by God give him one. Everyone is entitled to their own views, whether it is in politics or in life. I am all for obama but i ALSO RESPECT other peoples' views even if it conflicts with mine. This is why there are different political parties in U.S. people!.....just because someone "hates" Obama, that does not make that person a racist. I "hated" George Bush too. And when i say "hated", i mean that i hated his political views and they way he conducted presidential matters. But do i hate him as a person?..heck no!. I havent even seen the man for christ's sake. what are my chances of seeing him in person in my lifetime?, i say slim to none...how can i hate someone who i haven't even met or interacted with?........................So with that being said, i say make the man his anti Obama theme!

Plus the clunker program gave a boost to all these car companies that were struggling so badly, which also became a boost for the economy, while helping some people who were spending 100's of dollars on gas save money, while having a more reliable vehicle. It will save billions and billions of dollars in just a few years. When will this thread be deleted? Only one post about the theme (which hit me as also a post to do with politics, and not someone really wanting a theme) and 25 about politics, hahaha.

Lets make everyone an anti-something theme so we are all happy....I rather have that kick *** blue theme then any theme about a president, but like i've said an anti-bush theme would be hilarious, just like all the jokes made about him by our top comedians during his 8 years, which is something I will admit I miss about not havig George in the white house anymore .

I figured someone would say that... do you think that new car is going to get the same MPG in 10 years? let alone in 1 year please...

Dont know how many people are here but looks more than 60-70k....

Yes. My car is an 01 BMW 330ci, and it's consistently getting 30-31mpg highway, and 21-23mpg city, 8 years later. How much do you know about modern cars? I know quite a bit, and know that your question is absurd.

I've seen all the pictures, 60-70 sounds spot on to me. I've also spoken with a friend who lives in DC, who attended the anti-war protests recently, which had a bit over 100k people, and he told me there was definitely not more people on 9/12 than during the anti-war protests. BTW, using infowars as your source doesn't help your credibility.

Another BTW, more people were at the Cowboys game 2 sundays ago than were at the 9/12 protests. Does that mean that Americans are largely pro-Cowboys?

The DC police and the Parks Dept. there said between 1.2 & 1.5 Million. The news groups overseas without US ownership said around the same. So we know that they must be close.
Now take the US news groups. We were told as low as 20,000 and as high as 1.5 million. I wounder which one said the 1.5 and was telling us like it was..... Just open your eyes people. Don't look at one source.

As far as the OP goes is there a problem here. Let him be. We all have a right to choose what ever we want. Now if the op were going to use the anti-Obama theme to hurt someone that would be different. I think he/she just wants a picture. A few of you think the OP just posted this thread to get a reaction, well if that is the case then it worked. And the reason it worked is because you allowed it, by not sticking with the op's request and the rules of the forum. I guess the OP got the last laugh.

The only thing I have to say is is should have been posted in the theme section.
To the OP - nope, sorry, don't have a pic or theme

All I'll say is this. Only a buffoon would judge a President THIS early in his term, especially after the gigantic mess he inherited (which was BTW caused by a man a lot of these critical people supported & still do. amazing). And most of the haters started the finger pointing WAY earlier than now. A lot before we was even sworn in.

Everyone has a freakin opinion. Even though most the people barking the loudest have absolutely zero grasp on the subjects, so lets not all throw a couple stats up pretending we know what the hell we're talking about. We don't.

Point being, give the man a chance to work. After a couple years after we start to see the results, then feel free to criticize. Till the, lets all chill the F out.

    This is 2 million people:

    This is the 9/12 protests

Open your own eyes, I've already done the research. The DC police don't make estimates anymore, because they don't want to be accused of politicizing.

Obviously you didn't opt to but a car during the promo....jk.

Cash for clunkers was an automotive bailout not just a play to reduce gas consumption. Plus.... the gas savings comes every year not just once.

Your definition of socialism would be different from mine, to state your is the websters dictionary version is patently false. you dont like socialism, you feel that its just one tiny little step away from the nasty reds under the bed. Frankly it makes you look like your parinoid. Each to their own, is that not what you preach? Individualism, is paramount in your belief system. So, allow others their beliefs.

By screaming there are reds under the bed, you harken back to the good old days of the 50s. With Macarthism running rampant, this has been done before sir, and shown to be a total waste of time.

Allow them their beliefs, they will allow you yours. Based on your own assertions, that you actually live in a democracy, (lol what a joke that statement is), you must allow them their beliefs. I have read in some of these and other forums, that people are actually plotting to kill Obama, (facebook yesterday).

What I can not understand, and its a basic tenet of your own right of center stance, that democracy is paramount. So, the people have spoken, Obama, his health care system, and all the rest of his baggage won.

Accept your own tenets, and when your next vote comes around, get more people to vote against him if you wish. Until then, defaming your fellow americans by calling the socialists, because they agree with what Obama says, is just plain silly. ( I would have said stupid, but feel that is way to accurate)

Doesn't matter. The government has no business bailing out other people's dumb decisions with my money. Period. Let the markets, and the banks, and the auto manufacturers either fail or correct themselves.

The right to speak out about one's beliefs doesn't just come around ever 4 years. It's 24/7. I'm getting a bit tired with the "we voted him in, now shut up" crowd. If I see things being mishandled, corruption, attempts at destroying whole industries..... I'm going to speak up, sorry. You can sit on your hands and be quiet, if you wish. But do not tell me that I should or should not speak out. That isn't your place.

Oh, and by the way, McCarthyism has nothing to do with anything. It's right up there with playing the race card. You don't like how the conversation is going, you throw in either the racist flag or the McCarthyism flag. Very very tired tactics, indeed.

IDK, didn’t like Cash For Clunkers. It should have been restricted to US car manufacturers or at the very least cars manufactured in the US.

Also, some of the people it was designed to help that used it are now saddled with a new car payment and now must have full coverage insurance where they probably had the minimal liability only. If they truly couldn’t afford a new car, this program only puts them deeper in debt.

If it was designed as a mere auto stimulus, then Gratz, the foreign car dealers made out like bandits.

Another problem is that some cars which should have qualified, because their current MPG, didn’t because it was based off the MPG rating of when the car was purchased as new. So that guy driving around in the beater hatch back with smoke pouring out the back is still on the road.

I laughed when I found out Hummers qualified as new vehicles to purchase. Yes I did say US cars earlier, but who thinks of a Hummer as fuel efficient?

I have a strange feeling that the only people this helped were people who were planning to buy a car anyway and this was just the push to get them going.
