    Hello AKraemer,

True enough, but we made it through that. I guess you are right--if we made it through that, we can make it through this era as well...hopefully.

It's not that difficult. All it's gonna take is for enough people in government to decide that maybe the sound byte isn't as important as actually sitting down and achieving something.

And for the rest of the country to stop believing the ludicrous claims of both right and left extremes as though they were gospel. Obama's as much a socialist as Bush was a fascist. I mean, really?

I tend to agree. My personal view is that the primary struggle is between government and the citizens, not party vs party.

Fascism and Socialism aren't that different--they both depend on government control and curtailed freedom for citizens.

I'd not be surprised if the United States didn't make it to its Tricentennial.

Additionally, if a town wants to hire a doctor, and the people of that town vote for it--who am I to argue with them making decisions for themselves. That's democracy...and like Northern Exposure (sort of).

Or course, this would require an understanding that there are differences in Federal, State and Local governments and what they are empowered by the citizens to do. Let's not worry about those pesky facts.

We *could* organize and promote changes to our education system that would increase our kid's awareness and understanding of our government; and not just the liberal view, but all views - classic or otherwise?

Well, I know a good number of teachers, and a few of them, who teach high schoolers, state that many of those kids lack the most basic knowledge of how our government works. They know that we have a President, but really don't know or understand the role of Congress. They believe that the President creates laws, and is essentially a king. These aren't grade schoolers.

There have been other studies that show that many adults have very poor understanding of civics. Many have similar lack of knowledge regarding the basic framework of our government, so it seems unlikely that they have any concept of the details. Clearly, our schools (and parents) are failing to impart this knowledge to young people.

What could be more dangerous to a Nation than to have generations of people who have the Right to shape the fate of the nation, but not even a basic understanding of it. Civics--not political indoctrination, but objective factual teaching about the structure of the government is vitally important, and in my view should come right behind reading and arithmetic.

I suspect that there are politicians that are quite satisfied with an uneducated public, because they are easier to manipulate.

Keeping the public ignorant of how government works means our elected robbers can get away with lots more than if people know what they need to know.

Very true. A manifestation of how much they depend on the American people being passive is being seen currently with these town hall meetings. They are so unaccustomed to being questioned, that I think they are literally and sincerely offended. They have no right to be, and its borne out of an elitist attitude, but they really don't understand.

I'd love to think that the American people have woken up, finally and are saying enough is enough, so the citizens can take back what they've lost to out of control government, but I'm not holding my breath.

Once again, I say throw all the bums out. All sides. That will make an impression on the next batch that heads to Washington. While we're at it, lets get a fair flat tax going. We'll squash the deficit in half the time.

Oh, and we need to vote in more Libertarians!

This year I lean more toward the Libertarian view than ever before. Definitely not Democrat and reluctantly Republican. A good Libertarian looks better all the way around.

I'd consider voting for him... as long as he let me keep my fast food! But being a libertarian, he'd do just that... leave me alone, that is.

Yep. Just remember though, especially for those in the NYC area, your fatness is a great source of taxness.

Well....the democrats are really using the death card on this health care bill. Funny how Republicans get drilled for commenting negatively about Ted or even the Kennedy's in general...you know..."this isn't the time for that, let the man rest in peace"....blah, blah, blah. But apparently, it's fine for the democrats to rally their team about doing this for Ted! Let's pass health care for Ted. Really? Passing a bill like this....with all that it deals with....for the sake of someone who dies? Really? Forget what citizens across the country have been saying and questioning the last month....throw that in the garbage....and let's pass this for Ted....quickly. Good grief. This is exactly why we need term limits. When one man serves in government for 47 years and apparently has built up favors to pass a bill because he dies....well....no better reason I can see for demanding that we seek term limits.

Democrat....Republican...Libertarian....it should not matter. Everyone should see the importance of demanding we pass term limits on our representatives. No one should be able to sit in our government that long. Our country should be run by citizens....not life time politicians that set themselves up with nice incomes, wonderful benefits, and then retire on easy streeet. Come on people.....let's get term limits for ALL these fat asses.

We are sure everyone here has heard this:

Mess up everything for the majority. What a bunch of scumbags pushing this thing through. No accountability is what they are wanting - they need to go ahead and pass this if they think it is so great.

Another example of how the media is trying to dictate their support of Barry and the democrats healthcare plan. ABC and CBC are refusing to allow the League of American Voters to run an ad on their stations that discusses their concerns about Barry's plan. Of course, ABC had no problem doing a Prime Time special from the White House regarding Barry's plan. Slanted? Hypocrisy? You bet.

Also....not many people have a chance to go by the NBC store in NY, but, they sell Obama "action" dolls and a T-Shirt with Obama on it and the sub title saying "Yes we did". Good grief. I would imagine they mean "ABC" in the "we" part. Nothing like a fair and balanced media outlet, huh? I found 33 items in their store, LOL. Oh, I did a search for "Bush" and found nothing relating to President Bush unless you count the DVD of Will Ferrell's SNL skits of Bush.

His comments messed up nothing... another rant from someone who has nothing better to offer.

Well, I guess his solution is to say the hell with the 15% and let them struggle. If that is what Republicans want to do, fine. The heck with the poor... heck with the middle class person who loses everything due to health care costs (and then fall within the 15%)... heck with those who must choose which meds to buy or decide on meds or food... oh, well...

Maybe this guy should be focused on that REPUBLICAN disaster he has going on in SC right now. Cry me a river... or is it Argentina?

Republicans are doing nothing but rushing obama into a second term.
