I know how many of you want nothing more than to watch BARYE grovel in defeat, but like his girlfirend Hillary, BARYE absolutely refuses to concede until ALL the votes are counted !!!! (and that includes Florida and Michigan )

(AP lists Obama/Biden as now at 52.5 % -- 3% remains to be counted...)

with 99% of the vote in (what's with Washington State and Oregon ??), its time to finally determine the winner of this important and prestigious contest.

The latest (but perhaps not entirely final) results are:

    Obama/Biden: 52.6
    McCain/Palin: 46.1

This represents a gigantic shift from the early:

    Obama/Biden: 52.4
    McCain/Palin: 46.3

The closeness of the race has naturally caused some concern regarding the fairness of the process and the determination of the winner.

Unfortunately as so happens nowadays, lawyers have unavoidably become involved -- and the issue has now finally had to be adjudicated by the Supreme Being.

The foundation of His ruling is the conventional rounding up or down of decimal point numbers. (Had the decimal number been .5 it would have been preserved as a split)

    Obama/Biden: 52.6 is rounded to: 53
    McCain/Palin: 46.1 is rounded to: 46

    BARYE:

    Obama/Biden: 53%
    McCain/Palin: 44%

    (Barr/Nadir 3%)

    Bujin:

    Obama/Biden: 52%
    McCain/Palin: 47%

Both Bujin and BARYE are a total of 2 points from nailing the final percentage.

    This yields a tie.

As had previously been outlined, ties are broken by the chronology of the entry.

    BARYE's entry predated Bujin's.

Therefore, after much discussion, argument, and name calling -- BARYE is declared the official winner !!!!!

My sympathies to Bujin over his very tough loss.

($10, of course, will be donated to BARYE's favorite charity: BARYE)

    BARYE,

As logical as your argument may sound (and I'm throwing you a major bone there), everyone knows that you lose points for (a) having your name in all caps, and (b) referring to yourself in the 3rd person. That last is why Bob Dole lost his bid for president, so you can't claim that it's an arbitrary ruling.

Add to that, the fact that you have 2 points of error in your assessment of Nader's final tally. I was right on the money there.

If you add additional point for me just on plain coolness, I'm clearly the winner. I have you in the crushing grip of my logic now!

yes coolness gets Bujin a point -- but BARYE's vast seniority (and all capped NAME) is worth 2 points !!

    As to Barr/Nadir --

    you got me there ...

I believed (wrongly) that with the race considered over, that both the extreme right and left would express themselves with less inhibition by voting for Barr / Nadir. (I was influenced in this in part, by friendship with many who voted for Nadir.)

When I made that prediction originally (in mid-October, 3 weeks before the election) -- I was wavering on how much weight to give to them (2-4%).

I genuinely thought Barr would do better, but perhaps Palin (and Ayres etc.) neutralized him somewhat.

Conversely, those same "issues" may well have lessened Nadir's vote -- the far left perhaps become scared about risking again having unprincipled nuts like McShame/Palin getting elected because of the left's stupidity -- like had happened with Gore in 2000.

Not really... you were off by 2% on the 3rd party vote...

    Bujin was dead on....

    I'll go with Obama by 52% / McCain's 47%, with others at 1%.

Let me say straight off that this particular decision was expected to be controversial. But these worldwide protests where BARYE's image is being burned in effigy represents, I confess, an unanticipated depth of passion.

This is the price, as junior would say, of being: "The Decider".

In BARYE's defense, the original post in this thread presented the essential elements of this contest:

guess the final vote percentages of Obama/Biden-McCain/Palin.

No mention was made of third parties.

BARYE's subsequent post was his personal guess as to the final results (reiterating a prediction he had already made weeks earlier). Following his Obama-McCain entry, in parenthesis, was a specific guess as to Barr/Nadir.

This was done that way both to remind folks to account for the third party candidates -- while also indicating that guessing those third party candidates was not required.

Many of the contest participants only posted Obama/Biden - McCain/Palin predictions.

In fact I think there was one very enthusiastic player who actually entered 3 separate guesses -- all of which were only Obama/Biden-McCain/Palin predictions, none of which included any third party guess.

Let me check, but if I recall correctly -- yes, I think this player was named: Theog.

Better yet, why don't we all send $10 to our favorite charity and call it a day.

Or maybe we should pool the money to buy Ben a ticket to see President Obama's inauguration?

    Rules ???

    The rules were pretty basic:

    1. Guess the winning percentages of Obama/Biden + McCain/Palin

    2. Make more than one guess (or edit), and your last entry is the one that counts (up until 12:01 AM EDT election day).

    3. Earliest entry prevails if there are duplicate guesses or a tie.

Never in the rules was any 3rd party results mentioned as a determining factor.

This was NOT an accidental omission.

There were two reasons I did not include third parties in the contest:

    1. it would make it more complicated --

    2. and perhaps just as importantly -- BARYE was unsure of the 3rd party results. (as is clear from his 10/26 post):

I demand a recount and high court decision

All I'm saying is that I'm glad that this is the only place that disputes the result of the election(poll) and we dont need to go through that whole thing on the real elections again..

I suggest we all donate $10 to your charity of choice or we split the $10 price up to the 2 contenders and let them decide which charity they give $5 each...
