I don't know what made me think of this, I guess being bored at work, but does anyone besides me remember the device that first made them drool? I do. I remember when the Kyocera QCP 6000 first came out. I wanted that thing so bad! It was the absolute coolest thing I'd ever seen in my young life at the time. I was only like 19 or 20 when it came out & couldn't afford the $500 price tag so I never got one, but I spent cumulative hours at Circuit City playing with the demo. I remember being utterly FLOORED that they'd come up with a way to get internet on phones. The thing connected at 14.4 speeds!!! That lumbering dinosaur sparked a flame of nerdiness in me that has yet to be quenched.

    Check it oot~ http://www.kyocera-wireless.com/qcp-6035-smartphone/

I should snag one off ebay & see if I can get it activated. The peeps at sprint would probably look at me like a dog that heard a funny noise.

Who was YOUR first love? Or am I the only geek that thinks about stuff like this? :P

My first love was the Palm Pro (I think that was the name... if was one of the first palm devices... too lazy to look up).

Anyway, looking back on it, it was a brick... but it was awesome. Then realizing how "cool" it was being in the club with it... looking all important... lol... got a lot of play with it though... good conversation starter.

The second device was the Palm V.

Now look at Palm. I hate this thread.

edit: ooppsss... you said smartphone. Sorry... I messed that up... No smartphone was every my "first love" or made me exited. I am loving the Moto Q9c... I am warming up to it... can't say I "love" it though. I'm still waiting for my first smartphone love.

Visor Phone -> Treo 180 was pretty big. But 270 -> 600 was huge. It was so sleek and shiny. I was definitely into that phone.

The Newton. If only I could have afforded it then.

My first handheld love(that sounds SO wrong) was the Cassiopeia by Casio. I had a Guinness book of world records with that device listed as the most powerful pda & I would just stare at it & wish I was rich enough. Damn I STILL want one of those...

    Mine was the Treo 300.

I still have a soft spot for it since it was my first device to combine phone, web email and pda features. Every since my first Palm Pilot, I had been waiting for a converged device.

BTW: the fip cover never broke on mine.

I severely dislike convergent devices due to my severe dislike of cell phone companies. For example, I cancelled my cell service yesterday (and happily making free calls through my n810 whenever I'm in wifi coverage) and still have a device that can do everything it was intended to, that wasn't subsidized and is mine in every sense of the term.

My first converged device was the original Sidekick. I liked it, but I really liked the concept of the Treo300. By the time I was ready to change phones, the Treo600 came out, and I was in love.

I held out for a very long time. I just couldn't bring myself to give up my Axim X51v and all it could do for me. I had whatever phone Verizon gave for free. Then I tried the original Moto Q. Loved it but missed the touch screen. I went to the Treo 700wx, sold my Axim and went solo for most of a year. I recently bought the Sammy i760. I sleep with it at night; shhhh, don't tell anyone.

My wife started with a Palm something or other about a year before I became interested. My first phone was also a 6035 and I have a friend still using his.

My first love was the Visor Deluxe and that did not even have a phone feature!
The visorphone module was cool but I could not justify the cost so I waited till the Treo 650 and if that one wasnt water damaged I'd probably still use it..

My first love was the Visor Phone. I had a Visor - and lusted after my buddies Visor Phone. Couldn't really justify the price. Forgot about it for a while - then the Kyocera 7135 came out and I was back in full lust mode. Haven't looked back since.

I got a palm pilot pro(fessional) back in high school and set it aside as a 1 trick pony. By the time I realized what it could do, the palm III was out.

IMO, the palm interface is the most copied interface in the handheld world. Even the iPhone owes a large chunk of it's UI to the Palm dev team.

My first true love was the 700wx. Once I got it, I never looked back.

I have to admit, I had a crush on the PPC 6700, but after about 3 weeks with it, I changed my mind.
