It is now 22 weeks to the day we all go to the polls and cast our vote. In spite of the possibility of some more exciting drama in the Dem party, there is little doubt that the top of the ticket is going to Obama.

The top of the Rep ticket is obviously McCain.

Tonight I think it really all starts between Obama & McCain (whether Hillary admits or not and in spite of any possible efforts she has planned to drag it out to Denver).

Both have not yet given any hints as who their running mates will be, though I think we all have several guesses for each.

This thread is dedicated to all the fun stuff (i.e. political boxing match between McCain and Obama) that is going to happen between now and that fateful day in November.

From talk radio to cable news round table sessions to campaign adverstisements.......The bullets have already started flying over the fence from both sides.....Obama is naive when it comes to handling international relationships.....McCain is clone of Bush....to really low blows like.....Obama only got here because he got a pass from the media because of his race....McCain is too old to be trusted with such a stressful and important position.....

    This is going get interesting.....

I'm waiting for the 527s to get into gear... see if this election causes 527s to become eliminated or regulated.

This is going to be a very nasty general election.... instead of race and gender, we will transfer to race and age.

I'm more interested in obama's strategy than anything else... which is why I wanted him to win. Hillary would have been a "traditional" campaign, while obama will have some twists and turns, I'm sure. See if obama makes a run for traditional republican states....

See how McCain decides to fight back... see just how "dirty" mccain can get... See if mccain has enough money to put up a big fight and how his money is spent... or if limited, where will mccain make a stand... will mccain make a run for traditional dem states...

    Very exciting times... living history...

Jimmy Carter: his thoughts on an Obama-Clinton ticket

I think it would be the worst mistake that could be made,” said Carter. “That would just accumulate the negative aspects of both candidates.” Carter, who formally endorsed the Illinois senator last night, cited opinion polls showing 50% of US voters with a negative view of Clinton.

In terms that might discomfort the Obama camp, he said: “If you take that 50% who just don’t want to vote for Clinton and add it to whatever element there might be who don’t think Obama is white enough or old enough or experienced enough or because he’s got a middle name that sounds Arab, you could have the worst of both worlds.”

    Who does Carter prefer?

The former president said: “What he needs more than a southerner is a person who can compensate for his obvious potential defects, his youthfulness and his lack of long experience in military and international affairs.”
LOL... I love it.... carter does not hold back any words... no beating around the bush.....

Okay it looks like it is VP time! It is stronly suspected that Obama will be naming his before the week is out. McCain I wouldn't imagine would be too far behind. Willing place any wagers on who each one will pick?

OBAMA: American voters should know this week who will join Barack Obama as No. 2 on the Democratic presidential ballot....Top contenders for the vice presidential spot were Evan Bayh, a middle-of-the-road Indiana senator with an extensive Democratic pedigree; Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine, who leads a Republican-leaning state that Obama needs to put in his column in the Nov. 4 election, and long-serving Delaware Senator Joseph Biden, chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee who undertook a weekend trip to Russian-occupied Georgia.

    ------------------------

McCain has not yet named a running mate either. The Republican convention is Sept. 1-4. Politico reported on Monday that former Mass. Gov. Mitt Romney and Minn. Gov. Tim Pawlenty were prime contenders after a trial balloon by McCain gave him very negative feedback about the idea of picking a pro-choice running mate like former Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge.

    Full Article
If I was a betting man I would say:

    Obama => Biden
    McCain => Romney

Any of the names I've heard being kicked around would make good vp choices for either obama or mccain. I don't think there is a "clear" vp choice here.

Although, if you are playing the "state" game, biden does not offer obama much... Deleware? lol.... but face it, biden would be ok. Heck, biden could be president....

Romney would be a disaster for mccain. Anyone mccain picks would be a disaster. lol I think mccain should get jeb bush!

Just keep the debates and questions up - Obama lost it this time. No answer on when he thought life began. No answer on abortion, just the usual avoidance. And to think his time in the state house finally caught up to him on abortion. What a man!

Damn I missed the politics in OT.

Unfortunately McSame's age and health are going to catch up with him as election day draws near. He was a much stronger candidate eight years ago.

Also, it is a little ***** watching the senator stroke his fundamentalist base.

I used to not like McCain much (and I still don't really), but after that forum the other day, he's looking a little better. I loved the short, to the point answers, rather than Obama's answers where he walked every which way around the questions (okay, mostly just the abortion stuff, but that's a huge issue for me).

Obama did not answer the questions put forth to him and it clearly demonstrated his inability to adapt to real live situations. It also showed his unwillingness to take a stand on anything, something McCain has no pronlem with.

As for fundamentalist base, no an accurate description - make it a conservative base. Big difference.

Obama openly supports infanticide, not to be confused with abortion. There are very few among us that openly support infanticide. That is a major issue. The man says he will unite and with his beliefs, that is just not possible under any circumstance. Theog, do you also support infanticide? Straight yes or no is fine.

Theog, all of the above is easy to verify.

I see your question... but I also know your past... there is no debate with you... all you want to do is push your twisted ideology against anyone who looks like obama.

If the abortion issue is huge for you (and you are against it), then of course mccain will start to look better and better.

Not so big with me, I am 100% choice. Difference of opinion. With that, I thought obama's answers were just fine (it is a complicated issue that takes more than one sentence to explain).

In addition, I know McCain's past with telling people what they want to hear. I'm not so sure I trust him.

So in other words, you like canned stump speeches. The same rehearsed answers given over and over, instead of someone who is giving you thoughtful answers.
I was watching McCain yesterday on the news. It was just a 15 second snippet, but he must have looked down at his piece of paper 4 or 5 times. The guy simply can't keep a thought in his head! That's why he gives short, canned responses. And if you followed the controversy surrounding that debate....... or errr talk with the pastor, he even needed help to decide which canned responses to pull out of his cranium. Cone of silence my azz. You know he got wind of the questions. Is it his age? intellect or lack there of? Both? He would be another embarrassment.

No, I like people who actually answer questions. Obama never answered those questions, but started talking about something else (the subject was related, but it wasn't the answer to the question). If Obama can't think up of answers by himself, then he needs to have somebody else do it for him, and write it down on a card if need be.

The way I see it, Bush probably does have answers, but he can't talk to save his life, so he looks stupid. McCain has answers, and yeah, they may come from a card, but seriously...what politician doesn't rehearse speeches and debate answers before the event? Obama just doesn't have answers at all, but he's great at talking his way out of (or into, in this case) anything, so he looks like a genius.

That's my take...if you don't like it, then oh well. I don't like your take. Guess that's the whole idea of free will.

Maybe the problem is that you don’t understand the answers. You’ve already stated you like the canned lines, so you’re use to the drivel we’ve been getting the last 8 years. I guess if you’re use to eating baloney, steak wouldn’t taste so good. Hahahaha
No worries, I’m indifferent to your “take.”

But do you support infanticide? The child survives an abortion, breathes on its own - do you support letting the child die without giving the child any aid? It is not a matter of being pro choice or not.

You mention McCain - telling people what they hear. What do you call it with Obama?

It is not a matter of "understanding" the answers - he did not answer the questions. Take the time to listen to it. When asked about abortion, when asked about when life began. When asked about...it really is not drivel - it is about answering the question. Obama did not answer the questions put forth to him.

Did he answer the question on when life began? No - out of his pay grade. McCain answered the question. Much more - Obama did not answer questions - he talked around them, avoiding the task.

I am frankly surprised he did answer with "Present."

What is interesting is obama agreeing to meet at Saddleback Church... he already knew the stakes were against him. Like walking into the lion's den looking for food. No matter how he answered the abortion question, he was toast.

The other part is how underrated mccain is in debates. He won the nomination by ripping into his competition during debates. All the while smiling and saying "my friend."

The official debates do not start for weeks so we will see how that goes. Of course the way obama answers questions will work better in a real debate forum. Where if mccain sticks to sound bites, he will get dusted. Of course, mccain is good, so I venture to say he will change his style.

I think bclinger answered for me. The questions asked during that forum were very specific. Pastor Rick Warren didn't ask the candidates to recite an essay they wrote about everything and anything related to the question. He asked for the answer to the specific question he asked. When asked when life begins, Obama started talking about how to reduce abortions...and played it off with the excuse that the real answer is beyond his pay grade. Last time I checked, that question was a matter of opinion, and the answer doesn't discriminate by pay grade. If it did, there'd be no point in asking, because it would be under God's pay grade, and only His.
