Just curious what people's top three issues are. I didn't create a poll in case I failed to list one. Also, I recognize that your top three this upcoming election may be different than top three in previous elections.

Again, just looking for people's top three issues . . .

    I'll start (naturally):

    • National Security
    • Immigration
    • Health care
At this moment, I would say they are in order of importance as well.

its perhaps unintentially revealing that you don't include the economy -- or the housing crisis in particular -- something most would have at the top of their concerns...

You mean the economy that was in a recession but now might not be the case?

As far as the housing crisis--is that going to require a four-year term to correct?

And you forgot your three . . .

mine -- and most people's will be the economy (which really is housing and the credit crisis that it begot), the war in Iraq, the environment (global warming et al), and health care.

The enviroment is not yet an easy 30 second persuader -- but it could become increasingly so.

If I were in charge I would flog the economy and the housing crisis RELENTLESSLY (as has already begun btw)

National security & immigration and then getting rid of those elected people who are intent upon driving us broke with this global warming scam.

    1) Economy
    2) Taxes
    3) Iraq

Of course, I don't consider things in a "top three" when voting, so this top three might not even be in my top three come Nov. These are the things I'm learning about right now. I take a holistic approach to voting.

At any rate, most of my concerns run parallel with the owning of my business. With the economy, as Barye already pointed out, you have to take several items into consideration, housing, unemployment, food, gas, etc.

On taxes, I'm concerned about tax hikes from the dems and either going too far or having to raise taxes from McCain. So far I've not agreed with many things mccain has said recently. For example, his Holiday Gas Relief idea was not a very good idea. The way he wants to pay for his health care looks about as bad as those ideas from hill and obama.

Mccain reaches back into taxes on health care.. proposes $5000 tax credit or something and to take people away from business plans (I thought that business plans were cheaper since people could pool their money together). Of course everyone should know about obama and hill plans already.

At any rate, no matter which get in office, it seems that taxes will change. I do like mccain's business tax reduction... obama and hill scare the HELL out of me when it comes to business taxes.

Iraq? I'm ready to get out of that place. Although, I don't believe any of these candidates will completely take us out. With mccain in office, I say there is a 40% to 60% chance we go into syria or Iran.

One of my next top three here soon will be research on EDUCATION. Out of everything, education should be tops when you consider younger people. Two things that won't change much: immigration and outsourcing. NAFTA does not help.... Our young people need to pick up their books and learn in order to get ahead. The days of dropping out of high school or even finishing high school with no college and landing a perfect job is slowing coming to an end in many parts of the country. It has in my area already since the mills left starting almost 10 years ago. They are mostly gone now. 50 to 20 years ago you could land an ok mill job without a high school diploma and move up the ranks. Make good money and look forward to some retirement.

McCain's gas relief does not make sense - we agree on that. What I want is to cut our dependence on foreign oil and get away from using food for fuel. Our food prices are high only because of it. We also need to to drill for oil where the democrats do not want us to drill and remember, global warming stats thrown out are easily debunked and Gore will not debate the other side. The Antartic shelf has gotten larger, the water temperature has reduced in that area and polar bears do not drown.

Fair enough, I didn't think of top three switching between now and November but that's a good point.

I don't know that my three will change any but it might.

Additionally, I just figured the top three would give a reasonable representation of what people find important (or the most important).

    In no particular order...
    1. Make government smaller.
    2. Take less of my money.
    3. Stop mucking about in foreign lands until the home soil is taken care of.

Funny enough, I was looking at the rest of our comments in this thread, then thinking about what we all argue about.... what we do and what we say (myself included) does not fit. lol

Yours come close by putting "leadership/character/trust/competence as #2. 100 years from now if people read this forum, I think they would think your #2 would be our #1. If that makes any sense. In other words, that is all we talk about most of the time.

He doesn't appear to be. Gravel is on the Libertarian radar, but no sign of Paul.

As I mentioned in a post in another thread, I think it's a major factor for most people, though not everyone would admit it. And it's the determining factor for a lot of people choosing between Obama and Hillary.

thats my understanding too. (a pretty close friend of mine is still traveling with Gravel as one of his closest staffers (shoe string operation).

(though I haven't seen him in months, I know Gravel. I don't think I (or anyone else) ever told him I'm supporting Hillary though ...)
