    Clinton loaned struggling campaign millions

Money more than doubles her personal investment in Democratic bid

WASHINGTON - Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton lent her presidential campaign $6.4 million over the past month, her campaign said Wednesday, underscoring the financial advantage held by her rival, Barack Obama.
She gave her campaign $5 million earlier this year.

A campaign aide said Clinton gave her campaign another $5 million on April 11, more than a week before the Pennsylvania primary. She then again dipped into her personal wealth for $1 million last week and $425,000 on Monday, one day before the North Carolina and Indiana primaries.

Ex-Sen. George McGovern drops Clinton, backs Obama
    Reuters By Thomas Ferraro

Veteran Democratic Party figure George McGovern dropped his support for Hillary Clinton on Wednesday and endorsed Barack Obama, saying the Illinois senator seemed certain to win the party's nomination for the November presidential election.

McGovern, 85, said he told Clinton's husband, former President Bill Clinton, of his surprise decision in a telephone call, and that Clinton made no attempt to change his mind.

"He just wanted me to know that he thinks that Hillary has made a great race and it's up to her to decide when she leaves. And I don't argue with that," McGovern said.

He was speaking a day after Obama appeared to edge nearer securing the party nomination in the protracted state-by-state contest when he easily defeated Clinton in North Carolina and only narrowly lost to her in Indiana on Tuesday.

McGovern, a former U.S. senator from South Dakota who made a failed bid for the White House in 1972, told Reuters by telephone from his home in Mitchell, South Dakota: "It's time for us to unite and get ready for the fall campaign."

With Obama within 200 delegates of wrapping up the nomination, said, "All the mathematics seem to be on his side."

"Barack Obama has waged a very effective campaign. He's an unusually capable and talented man. I didn't frankly know him when I endorsed Hillary last October," he said.

In endorsing Obama, McGovern said, "I have been very impressed with him, and I'm sure she has been, too."

Interesting story... this is about how I would type it... lol... although, I might have added more about obama's strategy and ability to manage a large campaign...

How Clinton’s campaign got on the ropes

Analysis: A look at what went wrong with her presidential quest

Hillary Rodham Clinton began her presidential quest armed with talent, tenacity, fame, money, connections and a team that knew how to win. Many people believed her victory in the Democratic nomination was a sure thing. Her ultimate failing may have been in believing it, too.

By now, it's common knowledge that she planned to wrap up the nomination in early February. It was a reasonable assumption in 2007 but there wasn't much of a Plan B when that didn't work out in 2008.

Did Florida and Michigan help to blow it for her in their rogue rush to hold early primaries against party rules, a move that sidelined delegates from two big states open to her?

    March madness
She lost 11 races in a row in three weeks, relinquishing a lead in the delegate count that she would not get back.

And so expectations rose for Clinton to win Indiana handily and close in on Obama in North Carolina.

    It didn't happen.

I keep saying that obama had a plan and clinton could not counter... seems obama's planning went far back and very deep....

    The Obama campaign's 'unsung hero'

Jeffrey Berman has been pivotal to Obama's success, realizing early on that the name of the game in the Democratic race was delegates.

Berman’s detailed, 50-state planning began astoundingly early, say many of those who talked to him about it.

Carrick, who worked in presidential politics in 1980, recalled that Berman called him early in 2007 to discuss Texas’s exotic mix of primary and caucus — preparing for a vote that would take place the following March 5.

“Being in the California time zone, I would be getting calls from him at 11 p.m. my time — he would be back in Chicago, 1 in the morning, saying, ‘Oh, what do you think about New Mexico?’ ” Carrick said.

Now, analysts trying to explain Obama’s rise and Clinton’s fall tend to point to the big picture: Obama’s inspirational message, the drag of the Iraq war, the past and the future. But the heart of Obama’s victory has been technical and tactical — to the frustration and disbelief of Clinton’s inner circle.

Sounds like Obama has his own Rove. Hopefully he won't make Bushie's mistake and give him too much weight outside of his campaigning ability.

No, I think this guy only counts delegates... Rove is a political mastermind.

Not to beat the drum too much, but rove is so good he could get ME elected to the white house.

Okay, okay... he might not be "all of that." But he is a smart person who knows a thing or two about politics...

Does not matter if you hate rove or love him.... you have to respect the guy... he is good at what he does.

I heard Rove talking about this today. He made an interesting observation......He was basically complimenting Obama's political savvy'ness. He said that due to the Obama campaign doc leaked a little while ago, he knew he was going to lose Tuesday's primary a long time ago. Rove suspected that he planned to have this happen just after Obama's own suspected big loss so the headlines would be positive for him instead of focusing on Hillary's predicted big win, which with a 40 point lead over Obama became a reality.
