Someone sent me this link: www.jaxtr.com. I went to look at their site they seem to be legit and are on their initial phase (beta) right now so calls are free, even international.

    Has anyone tried this?

Maybe a poor copy of the leader in this arena... Google's GrandCentral... www.grandcentral.com

GC works great... one of few apps I love that google has... even if they did simply buy it... good purchase. lol

Have you tried GC? If you have a old phone from sunrock.com (you know, the one that imploded), you can get free voip phone calls....

how are you using it ?? Can you describe how its useful for you ??

(I signed up but never had a chance to really use it -- I started to get around 5 telemarketing calls a day. I canceled soon thereafter.)

Mostly as a main number for the local area... I decided to keep my home number once I moved. Since most people have a cell, this is not an issue, but with GC, it dumps the odd questions of why I have a number out of state. One guy I know is using it on the dating scene...

I've considered using for business, but I don't do phone sales or support... if I change this, I'd more than likely get a voip service though...

I like GC since you can call anyone or anyone can call you... I just tried jaxtr and it seems that your friends must have a jaxtr account as well. Good luck with that. Before I signed up for jaxtr, I read the international info and thought that it would be great (thinking the service worked like GC). Well, I can only call people on jaxtr... the majority of my friends are in their 40s, 50s, and 60s.... They are not into tech, and don't sign up for stuff like this....

GC has the right idea (and perfect), but they don't allow for calls overseas... I was thinking that google would change this, but they have been slow... well considering everything at google is in a "perpetual beta," they have a "perpetual excuse."

Guess I'll have to look at skype again... went there a while ago and it seemed to be a mess... could not really figure out what I'd end up paying... skype in out, to go, global, around... whatever.

If GC would get on the ball and offer up local numbers overseas and have it work like it does now, we would be in shape...

Guess I can't complain, my UK calls are only seven cents a minute, no connection fee or monthly fee... and I can call from any phone. It is simple... been using for five years and never no "gotcha's" or mess.
