Pixels are said to be overrated here.

Megapixel bashers are short-sighted. In thirty years, I plan to be enjoying my photos on my 170-inch, floor-to-ceiling screens, and my 3 MP photos from 2002 are going to look like crap.

The tests that were taken didn't convince me that there really is a "Megapixel Myth," rather I thought the author did a good job of reminding us that megapixels are only one of the important factors that determine the overall quality of a photograph. Advertising in the business seems to have put the major focus on the number of megapixels, in large part to the exclusion of the other components.

totally agree, better lenses and a bigger sensor are far more important than megapixels... (providing you have a usefull minimum, 5MP sounds about right, though my old 2.1 ixus still provides usefull pics for most uses (like sharing on the web)
higher MP can even make things worse due to the limited size of the sensor you can get extra interfearance and overheating.. (though this is less the case for DSL's)

Do files get embarrassed when they get unzipped?

The high end cellphone space are aware that people are catching on to the role of megapixels, and these days advertise other features in addition e.g. the make of the lens (carl zeiss is a good example for Nokia) and features like auto-focus.

MP can definitely be overated. Treo users can attest to this by simply referring to their own crappy cams on their devices!

The most important features should be the lens, type of sensor (CCD, cmos) and then the lens imo...
