If it syncs with the Visor out of the box, I'll get it as soon as DVD Player support is added (need it for a June flight).

Will Outlook Express work on OS X? That and Netscape Composer are the main apps that I use.

Carefull...I think Dave is a sure fire way to have a mess of extension conflicts and system freezes. I have several friends and family who have had bad experiences with Dave...so much in fact that it is not going anywhere near my Mac!

    -just my 2 cents.

ps-for all you casual readers who don't know Mac from Dave...they own the 7-11 down on 32nd.

There are a few file type changer programs out there:

    filetyper

    filechanger

    batchtyper

Haven't used any of them, but I saw a post in another forum and copied the names. If you try any let me know which one you like!

I can't wait for my copy of OS X to come. I've been waiting for my pre-order for months. Never mind that i've been using Beta for months.

There are rumors going around that some Classic USB devices work, but I've nothing specific on Handspring USB.

Once Palm comes out with the new version of Palm Desktop, I'll be able to delete my OS 9 partition.

    A few things...

My laptop is an iBook and my server is a Dell. I also have a third computer which is a iMac. I use the Airport for wireless net...but I also have a hub in the basement.

I personally use PC MacLAN (Mirimar Systems) for my network connections between the two platforms. It mimicks Appletalk on the PC which makes everything so much easier...and as long as you have a PS printer..it supports printing from both platforms. You can use "native" Appletalk on the PC or TCP/IP...doesn't matter. Fastest way to network if you ask me.

A few tips when networking...I often backup my Mac onto my server because of the huge HD I have installed...I also burn a CD of certain folders so I have a permanent archive. However...when you transfer files back and forth from PC to Mac...make sure you don't forget the file extension at the end. Also...if you back up any files onto the PC...DO NOT defrag your PC drive. I did this once...and after doing it...after backing up and reformatting my Mac...the Mac no longer recognized Mac file formats. Somehow when the PC defragged...it messed up the file structure...I don't know how...but it did.

BTW...for screen shots...I use an app called SnapzPro. When you hit SHIFT>APPLE>3 it brings up a window that allows you to capture whatever part of the screen you like...and then send it to the printer, the desktop, save as a file...whatever.

One last MUST HAVE tool for the Mac...go get a little app called Print to PDF. You select it in the Chooser as your printer...and no matter what app you are in...it prints directly to a pdf file. I love browsing the web and doing this to capture pages for reading later or printing.

Have you (or anyone else) done any Mac to Linux networking? We've got to Linux Servers up and running and we're beginning to play a bit with Netatalk services, which apparently allows one to run apple-talk on the Linux server.

One thing I REALLY wish apple would have done a long time ago was to add support for common windows network protocols. It would have saved a LOT of headaches over the years...

No I haven't done any Linux stuff...but I am curious to see the new OS X server...

I am guessing there will be all sorts of networking tools available within the next six months when it comes to X.

    Oh James,

Don't know if anyone else mentioned this earlier...but I think the best site to keep track of mac stuff is

    www.versiontracker.com

will keep you up to speed on what is out there and what version it is.
