It was on the cable news too. Depressing news to wake up to.
My sympathies to his wife and children.
HP has officially ruined it's own platform and kicked webOS loyalists and early TouchPad adopters to the curb. You think after you drop it like a hot potato and mention it made no money and is costing you money, anyone else wants it??? Way to go HP!!

And some people are fools to keep believing their hype. HP has shown they will throw webOS under the bus and people are still having faith in them??? News flash: if it's own company won't stand behind it, it's finished!

    This is life.

Sometimes we prepare for all kind of risk. This death is very unusual and unlikely case.

    My condolence to the family.

I was going post this, someone beat me to it, ToolKit. I sure would like to get a gander at what type of Ray got him.

That is truly a fluke death even for him.

Keep Playing With Fire, You're Going To Get Burned. It Was Only A Matter Of Time. Not Trying To Be Harsh But In Some Occupations You Just Can't Make Mistakes. Add In A Factor Of Animals Being Unpredictable And It Was Inevitable.

Rip. God Bless You. You Were One Of A Kind.

While I know he put himself at risk, I'm still sad for him. He put himself at risk for a decent cause, I think he was the top conservationalist of Australia.

Man, am I jaded. My first reaction wasn't "aww" but "SWEET!"

Not that I'm pleased by suffering - just that I'm pleased by things that "fit". and I was also pleased that it wasn't a crocodile.

I am definitely a bad person.

I am shocked. It is unbelievable. That affable and completely crazy wildlife expert is dead! Crockhunter is dead! Steve Irwin was filming a huge ray around Australia when the thing turned on him and stung him with its barb straight through his heart.

Friend John Stainton said he had viewed footage of his friend's last moments and the images were "shocking".

"It's a very hard thing to watch because you're actually witnessing somebody die ... and it's terrible," he said.

"It shows that Steve came over the top of the ray and the tail came up, and spiked him here (in the chest), and he pulled it out and the next minute he's gone.

"That was it. The cameraman had to shut down."

I am very sorry for death and wish to extend my personal condolences to his family and friends. He was crazy as a moon bat but he certainly brought his love of nature into our living rooms and infected us with it too.

Sorry folks. Forgot to search first. It's been a while.

Yeah, this was kind of a fluke. I mean, one could ask how many people died from stingray attacks but one could just as easily ask how many people actually try to get that close to stingrays. His wife certainly knew his lifestyle had risks. His kids, well, I guess they'll grow to understand the risks that come with the territory. I wouldn't be suprised to see one of his kids follow in his footsteps.

One great bit of consolation is that our understanding of the world in which we live has increased immeasurably by the actions of men (and women) who weren't afraid to take risks.

I saw a story that stated there are like only 12 known deaths period from stingrays.

yep saw the same story. I used to drive with them all the time in the Caymens and never got struck, then stepped on a baby in Gulf Shores and got it in the calf, it hurts like heck.
I'm going to miss that guy.
