I'm pretty sure not a freshly polished Mercedes E-Class and wearing high end suits.

But that's what a group of "followers" were wearing as I was greeted by them while pumping gas.

Sorry seems a bit of an oxy moron to me.

Fabulous song. Featured Gibby Haynes (B***hole Surfers) on vocals. Here's a bootleg version that sounds just like Gibby. Wink, wink.

Depends. If He were in London, that might be taxi. In Germany, it would be a family sedan. In the US it would be luxury car.

I am sure Jesus would be really big on repealling the Estate Tax. He was so into helping millionaires hang onto their money.

It would seem in typical human fashion, the bible and the Word can be perverted and interpreted to prove any point you want. We are really SO much more advanced than those Islamists who pervert the Koran to justify terrorism.

    Is that a "liberal" response?
Sounds like a rather self-important response in my view. Why would somebody of real greatness need such a show and have ointment put on his feet?

Part of Jesus' admonition (left out by the OP) was "leave her alone for she has saved this for my burial". The ointment that was poured on him was one of the ointments used on the dead. The act was the beginning of the preparation of his body. He was also preparing his followers for his death which was to occur within days of this event. This was one more time where he foretold of his death and his followers still hadn't grasped this.

It is possible to drive a luxury car and be a most generous compassionate person. It is possible to drive a taxi an be a self-absorbed snob. It is possible to drive a family sedan and be a hard-working person seeking to provide for one's family.

And all three can be done in a shiny E-class. How you perceive a person who drives a shiny E-class says more about you than it necessarily says about the other person.

In His day, Jesus had wealthy followers. The man who sought His corpse for burial was of means. James and John and their Father operated a fishing business that employed others. Peter and Andrew seemed to have a similar palce in the industry. Matthew was a tax collector. The woman who anointed His feet used a substance that cost a year's wages.

Not to mention, at his birth, visitors from "the East" brought loads of gold and expensive spices.

I see no indication that Jesus was impressed nor put off people with wealth. Rather, He was concerned for those whose wealth had them (i.e. how hardly those who trust in riches will enter the kingdom).

A saw a documentary on jezus some time ago where they tried to recreate an artist impression based on historical facts.
On of the points they made is that jezus was a fischerman and had a boat that could carry him and the 12 diciples. In that age such a boat would be very expensive and hence they came to the conclusion that jezus wasnt a poor man..

Umm, I believe he was a carpenter not a fisherman though he was a fisher of men. Can you recall the name of the documentary that you saw? I would be interested in watching it.

I'm with TxDot. Mark 6:3 pegs (pun not intended but appreciated) Him as a carpenter.

Sorry I might not have explained my point well.

I'm not arguing whether or not driving an E-Class Mercedes makes you a snob. What I am saying is, that it is a waste of money and resources. If a church is asking me for donations of say, $100 a month and the pastor is driving a Mercedes, I'm going to be asking why am I paying 100 for him to drive a Mercedes, while I'm driving a Honda. A Mercedes isn't exactly helping him get closer to god than driving a Toyota or riding a bike. That 100 would be better spent on repairs, further education for books, and such.

It's like when you go to communities with homes that are falling in on themselves, but the local church has the most incredible stained glass windows and a gold plated jesus hanging. Hmm...maybe the money could be better spent elsewhere.

    Just a thought.
