Man, I've wanted a Roomba for a long time. I observed a demo at a trade show last year and was very impressed by its performance. My wife won't sign off on the purchase & she is the vacuum operator. Let us know what YOU think.

Well, I gave it a shot this morning and absent munching on a few cords, it worked very well. It got a little week toward the end, but when I flipped him over, all the brushes were clogged with gunk (eek). I think that the more i use him, the less gunk there will be to clog things up. On a purely entertainment level, though, I'm surprised how much fun watching a vacuum can be...

There's nothing like a Dyson, those things rock.

I heard the Roomba's recharge time is quite long, is that (still) true?

    A) What the bleepity-bleep do you do on your carpets that it gets so dirty?

    B) How much carpet are we talking about here? Was it 1 small room or a lots of rooms?

I'd love a detailed review from you simply because my wife has wanted one and I've always assumed they were a bit of gimmick. If they work well, I may pick one up for her for Valentines Day (I'm such a romantic! :P)

Supposedly its 3 hours. I put it on the base when I went to sleep and let it do its thing this morning. I have to admit, it finding its "home" after it's done it's job is fantastic.

    A) You don't want to know.
    B) It was two small rooms. It a kind of industrial carpet, a bit more plush thatn that (think cheap apartment).
    C) So far it's great. How's that for detailed? I'll report back when i've given it the go-round. I can say that it isn't just a gimmick -- it really does clean things. But it will take a while before I can say if it's actually really good.

On a side note, I bought it on www.woot.com Check it out, neat site.

I've had a Discovery Roomba for a couple of years and it works great. Cords would be in the way of any vacuum. You still have to pick up fringed rugs, etc. It does a great job in bedrooms...just close the door and let Rosie do her stuff.

We have a Rumba Discovery and it works quite well. It is not quite a replacement for a full vacuum cleaner, but it does a great job for in-between jobs.

We took ours to a lake cabin and let it loose while we played out side. It acted strangely after that so with Rumba's tech support help I took it apart. Apparently it had gotten into a fight with a fishing pole. I must have pulled 30 yards of line from inside of it!

Our Discovery will also need it's sensors blown clean every now and then. It's easy to do with a can of air, just expect a lot of dust to be blown out.

I have had a Roomba for over a year now and LOVE IT!

I have two cats (no comments from the peanut gallery) and the hair battle was killing me. Then I got Roomba and the battle was over. IT ROCKS! Just turn it on when you leave (or you can schedule it to run at a particular time daily) and when you return floor is clean and it's back on its charger ready to go again.

If you have hardwood floors, a Roomba is a must!

The most recent versions have a very long trickle charge if the battery is very low to assure the lifetime of the rechargeable pack.

Ideal use, the Roomba's base station is under something but visible to it like a bed or the such, and is scheduled to work daily when everyone is at work, and it's back on it's charger by the time you return. Like a cron job baby!

Actually, it seems pets realize it's for the most part harmless. My cat stopped paying any attention to it after the third day.
