British trust in 'arrogant' US leadership plummets to just 12%
    ANGUS HOWARTH

THE leadership of the United States is more unpopular in Britain than ever, a new poll has found.

The YouGov survey found that only 12 per cent of Britons trusted Americans to deal wisely with current world problems - half the number who had faith in the 1975 White House.

The poll found that most Britons saw America as a cruel, vulgar, arrogant society, riven by class and racism.

They also believed it to be crime-ridden, obsessed with money and led by an incompetent hypocrite.

American troops are failing either to win "hearts and minds" in Iraq or bring democracy to that country, according to respondents.

More than two-thirds of those who offered an opinion said America was essentially an imperial power seeking world domination.

And 81 per cent said George Bush, the president, hypocritically championed democracy as a cover for the pursuit of US self-interests...

And you thought it was just me. (I'll go back to hiding now (apparently something I said caused all the ruckus two weeks ago))

That was you? Thanks. It's quite a bit more pleasant around here now.

I wonder if most of the Brits know that his approval rating is only in the 30's here in the US as well.

    Thanks blaze.......

I was really, really, really worried about what the Brits thought about us for a really, really, really long time......

Now thanks to your intuitive thought, I can add this Brits thing to my "dipsticks that dislike or find us repulsive" list.

Thanks again. Now I can stop convulsive fretting about what the Brits thought of me, you (well, maybe not you) and the rest of us and get some sleep tonight....

    Blaze,

How much time do you dedicate to prowling the internet for anti-american news stories and posting it in the off-topic forum of treocentral? Just wondering what your trying to accomplish (besides bringing a smile to the likes of Surur)? Whats your criteria on picking a story?.....Does it have to be 100% anti-american, or is anything over 50% ok? Do you disqualify any news stories that might include a postive? Just wondering.

He spends a lot of time. I bet it really upsets him that most Americans feel we need to finish the job in Iraq. It probably beats him that Bush's popularity is on the rise again. It probably makes him happy that the democrats we elect to represent us have decided not to let the masses decide on the Flag Protection Amendment. Heck, put the vote in front of America and it'll be a knock-out against the democrats.

What a shame to be unhappy as much as he is.

I'd like to see the questions for that poll, the wording sounds like they were trying to get this kind of result for shock value...
While there is a lot of critisism for the Bush gov, I never have heard anybody word it in this way..
Take this story with a grain of salt (or better a pound of salt )

    Don't worry you'll be fine
As long as you treat the locals with respect you'll get treated the same way.
For example dont assume people speak english even though most likely they do.. take a litle effort and learn 'do you speak english' in the language of the countrie(s) you visit.. small effort, but you'll notice it gets appreciated and people tend to treat you a lot nicer..

If you barge in like an arrogant cowboy, you'll get treated that way..
    Its all about attitude really..

Hey, are you allowed to say that? Some of us are arrogant cowboys, lol.

Before I went back to finish my degree, I was a waiter in fine dining for a while. We drew straws in the back to see who had to go out and face the arrogant cowboys for 10% of their check, most of which came from the children's menu, because our dinner menu did not have hot dogs, macaroni & cheese, and Dr. Pepper. I've litterally heard before. Don't y'all got no normal food arauwnd here? For real. wink

    Yeehaww!!

Come on, surely you've figured out independence was a mistake by now and are ready to ask to be allowed back into the British Empire? We might even take you back if you ask nicely!
