    very very cool. I hope the manufacturing process does not hold up production of this wonderful lifesaving product.

    Could be used in so way other ways also, not just for soldiers

    Yeah if we rush it thru testing, development and production it might even make it over to Iraq before we leave ... in 2012

    I think cost will prohibit its use except for specialized units.
    Palm III-->Palm IIIxe-->Palm 505-->Samsung i300-->Treo 600-->PPC 6600-->Treo 650-->Treo 700wx-->BB Pearl--> BB Curve

    It's been in development for years now though... In college I had to do a report on nanotechnology and that was one of my high points. It's pretty amazing stuff and I hope when I head out to Iraq in January that they may possibly expedite that stuff... Doubtful though.

    Oh yeah, it's that way with any new tech though. As they start getting more and more of it then it will be dispersed to the rest of the units.

    im sure the cost of development is considerable, but this is a must for our soldiers.... i hope we expedite its availability very, very soon. with the constant threat of IEDS and VBIEDS, this is the perfect armor reinforcement.

    Excellent technology, but it's not just for protection from bullets, similar concepts (i.e. gels or liquids that stiffen on impact) have been demonstrated for more trivial applications like sporting armour - soles of skateboarding shoes for example. I'd love to see full lower leg protection for footballers instead of just the shin pads we have now. You tend to see new technologies like this used first in military, aerospace and sporting applications because those are the markets where people will pay almost anything to gain an advantage. Carbon fibre composite is a good example.

    absolutely right. Im hoping we see its entry into the market for all of these possibilities in the near future. no doubt there would be an incredible demand for it.
