Frys is different than most other stores. For one, they have a porn section...my wife likes to go there just to see the "yucky pervs" that like to buy porn at a store w/lots of kids in it and then buy something cheap and random to have something to cover the porn with. lol. they often have really good deals on assorted electronics, software, etc. They sell basically everything you wish they would sell at the popular electronics stores.

She is definitely amused by them. Though I don't know (HOPE!!) that its the same type of amusement those guys are getting. I say let them have their porn, but if they're buying it at that type of store, lookin' all seedy, lol, they deserve to get laughed at a lil'.

    But I do not judge.
Then I will judge, The Chicago area Frys opened last 4th of july weekend. Mostly a Kmart compared to Bestbuy, with off the wall odds and ends.
The sell hardcore porn DVD's there. Not in a separate room, not even a separate aisle. HARD CORE, with their own little section RIGHT NEXT to the family titles. I complained to the manager. They said this was their corporate policy.
I am no prude, but there were young kids in this same aisle, had no clue there were moving from Mary Poppins to *** Smell my Pu$$y. Not making up that title.
I called the local government on them. They fought the local ordinance, till they lost. It's now a roped off area with signs hanging on the ropes, and cardboard in front of the movies. I tell everyone locally about, and I would like to think I have put a least a small dent in their bottom line.

Again, I'm no prude, but there was NOTHING stopping little kids from seeing this stuff. Let them learn it on the streets like I did.
I find it sad/odd that people ask to be thanked. How genuine is it when you have to ask? It's like forcing your kid to call Grandma, to thank her for the new underwear she sent for their birthday.

As a parent, do you follow your kids through Bestbuy? This store is like that. No reasonable person would think Bestbuy sells hard core porn, but Frys does.

    1. At least around here (northern CA), it's pretty obvious when you walk in that Fry's is not like Best Buy or CompUSA or Circuit City.

    2. As a parent, it's always a good idea to know all that a store sells before letting a kid wander around alone.

    3. I would not let a "little kid" wander around a store, especially one the size of Frys, by themselves. It's not safe for them, and the store employees are not baby-sitters.

    4. Roping off the porn section only makes it more alluring to kids who are old enough to wander the store themselves.

It's not the store's job to enforce your idea of what's appropriate for your kid to see -- that's your job.

oscarc, I disagree with you. And it sounds like the local town government did as well. How do you define a "little kid"? In some respects I'd worry less about a 5-year-old seeing these titles, as they're innocent enough not to think twice about it and they're not likely to be roaming around on their own anyway. I'd be more worried about a 10-year-old, who I'd imagine would be considered "old enough" by most parents to be allowed to roam around an electronics store.
Now THIS is the future of smartphones.

    I agree with Oscar.

As a parent, you have the responsibility.

Today, we have a generation of lazy parents who don't want to raise their kids. They expect everyone else to take care of them.

(I'm a parent myself and see this everyday.)

Also, our society embraces violence and embarasses sexuality. It's no wonder kids have a tough time (on top of ineffectual parents). The attitude of "watch this psycho cut up a person with a chainsaw, but don't watch a ***** going into a ******" is a big problem.

I'm not for censorship, but rather responsibility.

Now, I'm not saying all porn is wonderful, etc. It exists because people (naturally) crave sexual activity, and our society doesn't make it easy for people to hook up. So people buy porn and jerk off. It's just a substitute for the sexual intimacy. If everyone (of legal age and full understanding) was getting laid, there would not be as much of a demand. (and the world would be a happier place).

Fry's is just good ol' supply and demand at work.

Let's bring this back on topic. How can you work "700p" into the title of a porn movie?

    Because he is a man

Men have no trouble watching two lesbians making out, but most of us won't watch Brokeback Mountain...

Disclaimer: I have not seen Brokeback Mountain

WHat cracks me up is it's probably ok to walk thru the the action DVD section and see humans shot up or being eaten by monsters but we are afraid to let our kids see any kind of sex. I am afraid we have been brain washed!

AMEN! Americans are SO uptight about sex. After living in Scandanavia I can tell you they and Europeans have a much healthier view on sex and nudity that we do.

Of course we have a much healthier view on killing, dismemberment and other horrors.

I try to keep my kids away from the video extremes of violence and sex. Both. They will learn about it all, but I prefer a measured and gradual approach. Chainsaws and pneumatic breasts can come later. My 9 year old knows about the birds and bees because she wanted to know. And she has promptly dropped the subject in favor of 9 year old stuff. I like it that way. I don't need scary stuff in her face.

Nothing wrong with roping off the porno area. As a teen I looked longingly through the curtains at the forbidden "over 18" section and my my kids should, too.
