    3. I would not let a "little kid" wander around a store, especially one the size of Frys, by themselves. It's not safe for them, and the store employees are not baby-sitters.

    4. Roping off the porn section only makes it more alluring to kids who are old enough to wander the store themselves.

It's not the store's job to enforce your idea of what's appropriate for your kid to see -- that's your job.
I understand that out your way, Fry's prides themselves in being different. But the brand new building they put up here in the Chicago area is like all the other big box stores. No flying saucers. Just a plain (big) brick box with their signs on all 4 outside walls. Walking in, it's like walking into any other department store. Washers, dryers, fridges, computers, and Debbie does Dallas.

No it's the local municipality's job to enforce local ordinanaces. And in this case, they did.

Let me state again, I am NOT a prude. Heck, look at my current avatar.

Maybe out your way, this is a common occurence, porn being sold in any type of store. I am NOT judging. But in this area, it is not. So to find it in a store that anyone from my area would have no reasonable expectation of seeing, well, it's why I no longer shop there.

I have a high profile job involving the electronics field. I have influence over large numbers of people that like gadgets as much as I do. I steer them clear from Frys as often as needed.

Besides, I can get all the porn I want off the net.
I find it sad/odd that people ask to be thanked. How genuine is it when you have to ask? It's like forcing your kid to call Grandma, to thank her for the new underwear she sent for their birthday.

Maybe "*****" isn't what you think it is. I can think of a few words that would work, and none should be listed in this forum.

Hard core porn is a bit different than R rated movies. Now I know why your name is feces.

It's funny how the TC forums prove the point I am making...

I did not write "*****"; that was autofiltered by the TC forum software. Someone at TC deemed the word p-e-n-i-s to be "bad", but "******" to be okay.

This proves my point - why is one word banned and not the other? It's because American society has some sexuality issues, and it bleeds into everything, even the TC forums.

I'm surprised no one realized this already...try to use a profanity like the F-Word (aka ****) and you see "****" Now I understand wanting no profanity, but there are legit uses of the male and female body part terms.

But what do I know...I was once banned for using the word "crap", so it's the whim of the moderators regarding what language is acceptable (although I am pretty sure the **** censoring of the words is done on the fly by the vBulletin software (or whatever TC uses).

Cool. Another reason to visit Fry's!

And I can't believe they had hardcore DVDs. I'd like to know what the movies were before getting on board with it. One person's hardcore is another person's vanilla.

And for a 700p porn title how about:

"The Continuing Saga of Rosy Palm - Chapter 700p"

What? You mean there are people out there who actually goes out to a store and BUYS porn?!? Between hundreds of Bit Torrent sites, pay-as-you-go download porn sites, DVD burners and high-speed T3 lines, who needs to go to a store and get porn???

All I can say is that there are only two stores I miss from my distant California past: Fry's and Trader Joe's.

Fry's sells adult materials? I go to fry's all the time, but I have never seen anything like that! This is weird.
Does this hold for all Fry's stores or just some?

Take a wander through your Fry's DVD section. Me thinks you'll be surprised.
I was so shocked, I had to pick up 10 different movies before I realized what I was looking at.

By the way, the box covers contained hardcore pictures.

When did you notice they were hardcore pictures; on the sixth or ninth box? Or did it take all ten before it soaked in?

Seriously, that's just not right for a general admission store. I haven't been to Fry's in a while, but they are a computer junkies dream come true (Radio Shack on Barry Bond's cocktails). I really don't remember anything like that in our Texas stores. Sorry to see they're courting the low end as well.

Maybe the texas stores are different... Not that I really want to find out. I don't buy DVDs, so maybe I've just never had the chance to discover Fry's dirty little secret.

That's probably why I didn't notice. Besides, with my luck, if I went into that section to begin with, my daughter's English teacher would see me from across the room heading into the "naughty section."

At the Fry's store in Palo Alto, California, in the heart of Silicon Valley, they do in fact have a small section devoted to p@rn. In the past, it used to be in plain view. Nowadays, there is some cardboard covering the lower half of the boxes. In the same long aisle, the p@rn section is located close to the checkout stands, so as to be an impulse purchase I would imagine. Hey, gotta have a side order of p@rn to go with the hard drive!

On the opposite end of the p@rn section, in the same aisle, there is a small section of adult magazines, including P@nthouse and Pl@yboy. These magazines used to be fully exposed, but nowadays they are wrapped in plastic, with the exception of a few display editions.

As others have noted previously, buying p@rn is a dying art, since it's so readily available on the net. By the way, the type of p@rn sold at Fry's is pretty much the ordinary stuff...nothing exotic. To get the really wild fetish stuff, you would have to go to a "real" store for that.

Not sure if it's been mentioned here, but Fry's is having a big Anniversary sale starting tomorrow (Friday, 5/19) and I think it's for 2 days.
